President Barack Obama has commuted the sentences of 562 federal in- mates during his eight years as commander-in-chief. Two of those inmates were people very dear to the heart of Den- ver Broncos wide receiver De-
maryius Thomas.
When Thomas was very
young, both his mother and grandmother were arrested on drug related offenses and sen- tenced to time in prison. Last year, the President par- doned the 20-year sentence of Thomas’ mother, Katina Smith, five years shy of its deadline, and on Wednesday (Aug. 3) the President has made it so that Thomas’ grandmother, Minnie Pearl Thomas, will also be coming home early, making their fam- ily once again complete.
“I don’t really know what to say,” Thomas said. “I just want to talk to my granny. I haven’t talked to her in a cou- ple weeks. I’m excited for her.

The six inmates from the Tampa Bay area are:
She was sad when mom left. She used to cry when she was in there by herself. I’m just ex- cited for her, and I want to thank the President for all that he’s done for her and everybody else.”
Reportedly, Minne Pearl
Thomas was serving double life sentences for her involve- ment in a drug trafficking case in Georgia in the late 90s. President Obama’s com- mutation has made it so that she will be released on De- cember 1, 2016.
