Child Safe, But Accident Claims Lives Of Two Adults
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Two young adults were killed in a traffic accident on Saturday. Police said a small child was not injured, but was transported to a local hospital for observation.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the acci- dent took place shortly be- fore 11:30 p.m., at the intersection of N. 34th Street and E. Lake Avenue.
Ms. Tyronda Samp- son, 28, her son, Tyree, 3, and Michael Wimbley, 28, both of Tampa were riding in a 2003 Chevrolet, which was struck by a 2003 Infinity as it entered the intersection, driven by Rico Taylor, 35, also of Tampa.
Ms. Sampson and Wimbley were killed in- stantly. The child was prop- erly restrained in a child car seat.
Police said the impact knocked the Chevrolet into a third car that was in the turn lane. They received minor in- juries, police said.
After the accident took place, Taylor allegedly jumped out of the Infinity and ran away on foot. He was
captured a short distance away and charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, driving while license sus- pended, and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. Taylor is currently being held at the Hillsborough County Jail. His bond has been set at $400,500.
Police said alcohol is sus- pected to be a factor in the accident.
