Sheriff Warns About Leaving Money In Cars
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister is asking Hillsborough County residents not to leave cash in their vehicles. Detectives are currently investigating several cases where large sums of money have been taken.
Police are referring to the new crime trend as “bank jug- ging.”
According to police, the most recent incident took place on November 1, around 5;30 p.m. The victim went to the TD Bank, 10821 N. Dale Mabry Highway and withdrew $17,000.
The money was placed in a

manila envelope and secured in the center console of his ve- hicle. The victim then drove to Lowe’, 12901 Dale Mabry, and
went into the store, leaving the money locked in his vehi- cle.
While he was inside the store, a tan or light gray SUV pulled next to his vehicle, and an unknown suspect exited. The suspect punched the lock, took the money and fled the scene.
In another case, a victim went to the Wells Fargo Bank, 15508 N. Dale Mabry High- way. The victim withdrew $10,000 in cash. He returned to his vehicle and drove to an- other branch of the Wells Fargo Bank at 13003 Dale Mabry Highway to make an- other withdrawal.
When he was inside the bank, an unidentified suspect broke into his vehicle, grabbed the $10,000 that the owner had placed in the cen- ter console, and fled the scene.
This was the third case with similarities that the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has investigated.
Sheriff Chronister said the City of Tampa is also in- vestigating “bank jugging” cases.
Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873- TIPS; or online at www.crimestopperstb.com.
