Grand Marshals Named For 29th Dr. MLK, Jr. Parade
The Grand Marshals for the 29th Annual Pa- rade will be introduced at the Second Annual Fundraising Dinner and Gala.
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade Founda- tion, Inc. has named the Grand Marshals for the 29th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade.
Mr. Robert Cole, Sr.,
owner of Cole Enterprises and a community activist for over 75 years; and Mrs. Chloe Coney, founder of the Corporation to Develop Communities (CDC) of Tampa, Inc., and former District Director for U. S. Representative, Congress- woman Kathy Castor, are the 2018 Grand Mar- shals.
The two will lead the pa- rade on Monday, January 15, 2018, which will start at 12 noon at Cuscaden Park, follow its regular East Tampa route, and conclude at Middleton High School.
This year’s parade fea- tures more bands and floats and promises to be one of the best in parade history, organizers say. The parade entries are closed, however
volunteers are still needed, and vendors can still be a part of the celebration.
Robert Scott and Howard Harris are Co- Chairs of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade Foundation, Inc., a certified, charitable 501-c-3 organiza- tion.
Scott said, “Adding the gala component was a long- time dream of mine. We needed the gala to further foster opportunities to fund the foundation’s three pri- mary initiatives: awarding scholarships to high school seniors, honoring commu-
nity heroes and sponsoring the MLK Year of Service programs. Moreover, and based on the success of last year’s gala, our corporate, community partners and guests agreed. We were very appreciative of the wholehearted support we received from our Tampa Bay community!”
The Second Annual Fundraising Dinner and Gala is being held on Thurs- day, January 11, 2018 at TPepin Hospitality Centre, 4121 N. 50th St., beginning at 6p.m.
The Gala is being chaired by Mrs. Sherryl J. Cusseaux, with Honorary
Chairpersons, Ms. Tamara Shamburger, Hillsborough County School Board Member (District 5), and Bob Conigliaro, Vice President of Community Relations, Caspers Com- pany McDonald’s.
Other than the Grand Marshals, also honored at the Gala will be: Commu- nity Heroes – Fred Hearns, Black Historian and Author, and Mrs. De- nese Meteye James, Community Activist; Drum Majors For Justice – Thad- deus Bullard, Mrs. Mae Judge, Dr. Brenda Walker, and County Commissioner Les
Miller, Jr., and New Mt. Zion M. B. Church, Rev. Larry L. Roundtree, II, Senior Pastor, who are being honored for family/community contri- butions, entrepreneurship, education, public service and charitable giving, re- spectively.
The Foundation will also award up to 10 scholarships for deserving high school seniors, who have demon- strated academic excellence and a heart for service. Ms. Gwen Myers is Scholar- ship Chair. The MLK Year Of Service Chair is Ms. Amber Smith.
