City Of Tampa Solid Waste Collection Schedule
College Students Come Home With Giving On Their Minds
   In observance of the Christmas holiday, City of Tampa offices will be closed on Monday, December 25th and Tuesday, December 26th. Customers who nor- mally receive garbage, yard waste or recycling collection services on Monday (Christ- mas Day), will not receive service.
Commercial and Res- idential Customers will not receive collection service on Monday, De- cember 25, 2017.
The revised collection schedule is as follows:
Residential Customers who normally receive serv- ice on Monday will receive service on Tuesday and Tuesday’s collection will occur on Wednesday. Regular Residential Solid Waste collection service schedules will resume Thursday, December 28, 2017.
Commercial Customers – for this holiday week, cus- tomers who normally re- ceive service on Monday will receive service on Tuesday; Tuesday’s collection will occur on Wednesday; Wednesday collection will
occur on Thursday; Thurs- day collection will occur on Friday; Friday collection will occur on Saturday.
McKay Bay Transfer Sta- tion and Scale House will be closed on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2017 and will reopen on Tuesday, December 26, 2017.
2018 S.W.E.E.P. Service operations will start during the week of Monday, Janu- ary 8, 2018. Items must be placed curbside, no later than 8 pm the Sunday night prior to the collection week.
Christmas Tree Collec- tion Service will occur Tues- day, January 2, 2018 through Friday, January 12, 2018. In order to receive service, residents are asked to remove all decorations and lights, cut tree limbs to four feet lengths, bundle, and place curbside on their regularly scheduled yard waste collection day.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade Foundation kicked off its 29th Anniver- sary Sunday morning, De- cember 17, 2017, recognizing some of the 6 honorees they will recognize at the 2nd An- nual Gala. The Gala will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018 at TPepin Hospitality Centre.
The MLK Foundation Honors Committee Chair- man, Sherryl Cusseaux, was accompanied by School Board Vice Chair Tamara Shamburger and Bob Conigliaro, VP of Commu- nity Relations Caspers Com-
pany McDonald’s, as they made 2 stops. Shamburger and Conigliaro are co- chairs of the Gala.
They stopped at Allen Temple AME Church, Rev. Glenn Dames, Pastor, for the early morning service to announce that member Fred Hearns will receive the Community Hero Award. Also at Allen Temple, the an- nouncement was made that member Dr. Brenda Walker is the recipient of the Drum Major for Justice Education Award.
The trio traveled to New Mt. Zion M. B. Church, Rev. Larry L. Roundtree, II, Pastor, for the 11 a. m. serv- ice, where the announce-
ment was made that the church will receive the Drum Major for Justice Faith- Based Organization Award. To his surprise, New Mt. Zion member and Chairman of the Deacons’ Board, Commissioner Les Miller learned that he is the recipient of the Drum Major for Justice Elected Official Award.
On Monday the second Community Hero Award was presented to Denese Met- eye James at Cyrus Greene Center; and to business- woman Mae Judge to an- nounce that she will receive the Drum Major For Justice Business Award. (Photo- graph by Julia Jackson)
