   Tampa Native Dies Following Brief Illness

Ms. Carla Lewis died early Thursday following a brief illness. Ms. Lewis was 54-years-old.
Ms. Lewis became ill last month. Last Friday, she was admitted to a local hos- pital, where she remained until she passed last Thurs- day.
Her mother, Mrs. Bet- tye Lewis said her daughter loved people and enjoyed working with people. “I am just pleased to know that she touched so many lives.”
A Tampa native, Ms. Lewis attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. She graduated from Robinson High School and entered the workforce. Later, she returned to Hillsborough Community College, where she earned her A. A. degree in Mass Communication. She continued her education at Argosy University, where she earned her B. A. degree in Human Resources Man- agement.
Ms. Lewis also earned her Master’s Degree in Non- Profit, Public and Organiza- tional Management from
Lewis was a member of St. Mark M. B. Church, of Port Tampa.
Prior to obtaining em- ployment with the City of Tampa, Ms. Lewis was em- ployed at the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elec- tions Office.
She joined the City of Tampa in 2003 when former Mayor Pam Iorio took of- fice. She was active in nu- merous organizations, including Seasons Hospice &
Palliative Care, of Hillsbor- ough County; the Hillsbor- ough County Community Action Board; the Hillsbor- ough County West Central Region Neighborh00d Advi- sory Board; Florida Neigh- borhoods Conference State Planning Committee; and the Hillsborough County Neighborhoods Conference Planning Committee, among others.
Ms. Lewis was also ac- tive with the Teen Hospital-
ity & Tourism Academy Day; and the Youth Affordable Healthy Eating Workshop.
Ms. Lewis, the only daughter and oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Allison Lewis, Sr., is survived by her parents, 2 daughters, her brother, and two grandchil- dren.
Funeral services for Ms. Lewis will be held on Satur- day. Ray Williams Funeral Home is in charge of han- dling arrangements.

Springfield University. Mrs. Lewis said her daughter was passionate about the Sulphur Springs Holiday Gift Exchange in which she organized in 2003. The project is a large gift drive designed to provide presents to the students and faculty at Sulphur Springs K- 8 Community School during
the holiday season.
“She would accept contri-
butions, but she would also use her own money. That was her passion,” Mrs. Lewis said.

    Free Oil Changes Benefit School Children
 The Ice Cold Air Discount Auto Repair, 410 South Dale Mabry Highway, is currently collecting school supply dona- tions for children in exchange for a free oil change. Individ- uals who donate at least $15 in new school supplies will be given a free oil change or a gift certificate towards any repair or service at the shop.
This is the Ice Cold Air lo- cation’s 8th year collecting and distributing school supplies to local youth.
Ms. Ashley Butler, Fran- chise owner and Tampa native said, “I can’t wait for summer time because this promotion is one of the brightest times of the year for us. We are thrilled to have an opportunity to en- courage people to donate criti- cal school supplies needed by our local schools and students. I feel that any donation that can help a child learn is a wor- thy investment.”
Customers are strongly en- couraged to make an appoint- ment for their service and bring the school supplies with them when they drop off their vehicle for service.
The business began accept- ing donations on July 16th and will conclude the service on August 11th at the Tampa loca- tion on Dale Mabry Highway.

Over the years Ms. Butler and her team have collected truckloads of boxes full of sup- plies. The team selects several schools in their community with students in need and dis- tributes the donations pro- vided by their generous customers.
Ms. Tina Denham, Pres- ident of the Ice Cold Air Dis- count Auto Repair franchise said, “Our customers and com- munity have been very good to us for over 40 years, and sup- porting worthy local charities is an excellent way for us to give back to the community and our customers for their support.”
