Tampa Native Selected For National Policy Fellowship

Ms. Tamara Shamburger, has been selected as one of fourteen in the Nation, and the only candidate from Florida, to participate in a national two-year Policy Fellowship. The pro- gram is hosted by the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI).
In line with NBCDI’s mission of engaging leaders, policymakers, professionals, and parents around critical and timely issues that directly impact Black children and their fam- ilies, this training is designed to en- sure that Black policy leaders are positioned and prepared to con- tribute such that both state and na- tional policies designed to benefit families and children are informed by perspectives from the Black commu- nities that are served.

Ms. Shamburger has continued her education advocacy since leaving office in 2020 as the Executive Direc- tor for a chain of urban early learning centers and as the President of BCDI Greater Tampa Bay, whose focus is the well-being of Black children and families.
A Tampa native, Ms. Sham- burger, 46, graduated from Bloom- ingdale High School and holds a Liberal Arts Degree from Hillsbor- ough Community College. She contin- ued her education at the University of
South Florida, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Ms. Shamburger also holds a Master’s of Business Admin- istration from St. Leo University. She is the mother of 1 daughter.
She was elected to serve one term on the Hillsborough County School Board.
