Coretta Scott King Award Winning Author, Ms. Oge Mora, To Speak
    This year marks the 50th an- niversary of the Coretta Scott King (CSK) Book Awards. Cud- dle Up and Read Every Day (CURED), Inc., in partnership with the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library, will host a celebration in recognition of this milestone.
The event will be held Satur- day, November 2, 2019, 10 A. M. to1P.M.,attheRobertW. Saunders, Sr. Public Library, 1505 N. Nebraska Avenue, Tampa, FL.
Ms. Oge Mora, the 2019 CSK John Steptoe New Talent Illustrator Award Winner, will be the featured guest.
The CSK Book Awards cele- brate the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and honor Mrs. Coretta Scott King for her determination to continue her husband’s legacy of peace and brotherhood for all mankind. The awards are given annually to recognize outstand- ing African American authors
female role models in Ms. Mora’s life.
The works of past winning authors and illustrators and sev- eral items highlighting the 50th celebration will be on display. Resources focusing on the life of Mrs. King will also be avail- able.
Cuddle Up and Read Every Day (CURED) is a literacy pro- gram designed to encourage and promote daily reading among elementary school children, with an emphasis on African American literature. Since its inception six years ago by Founder and President Dr. Cora P. Dunkley, CURED has hosted an annual event where each child in attendance re- ceived a new book and where reading activities were designed to engage and excite children and to allow them to be creative.

Ms. Mora’s presentation will focus on her book, Thank You, Omu!, a fresh take on a timeless tale of altruism and community mindedness. Special attention will be given to her im- pressive collage work which brings to life an amalgamation of many grandmothers and cap- tures the African spirit of gen- erosity and community. The book was inspired by the strong
