On Tuesday, Mayor Bob Buckhorn appointed the new Chief of the Tampa Po- lice Department. He selected Interim Chief Brian Dugan to fill the vacancy created with the retirement of Eric Ward earlier this year.
In a press release, Mayor Buckhorn said, “During his 27-year career, Brian has set the gold standard for what it means to be a Tampa police officer. When I ap- pointed him to interim chief, I knew he had what it takes to lead one of the best police departments in the country.
“I have watched very closely over the last few months as Brian has demonstrated steadfast leadership through two very significant events. Each of these situations would have tested the most experienced chief and Brian passed with flying colors.”
Mayor Buckhorn went on to say that Chief Dugan worked around the clock during Hurricane Irma and led an all-out manhunt to find the killer(s) in Seminole Heights while ensuring the safety of the neighborhood
