Black Panther - African-American director Ryan Coogler has made the first Marvel film that should win an Oscar for Best Picture, screen-writers, male actor ( Chadwick Boseman) and supporting actor (Michael B. Jordan). Yeah, I'm the first to say it! Boseman (Black Panther) is T'Challa, the King of Wakanda, must protect his isolated, technologically ad- vanced African nation from villains Erik Killmonger (Jordan), Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis- played Caesar-Ape and Gollum-Lord Of the Rings), Tribe Leader M'Baku (Winston Duke) and W'Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya- Get Out). With the sup- port of his tech wiz little sister Shuri (Letitia Wright), female General Okoye
(Danui Gurira), friend Nakia(Lupita Ny- Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), ong'o), CIA agent Everett Ross (Martin and Lupita Nyong’o.
Freeman), Mother (Angela Bassett) and
Zuri (Forest Whitaker), T'Challa (Black
Panther) will need all the help to stop the villians and fight to the death for his nation. This was a well- written story by director Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole. Black Panther smashed the box office by bringing in $192 million in three days and becoming the fifth biggest opening of all time. All hail the King! Still No. 1 at box office-$411M- U.S./ foreign- $326M -(budget-$200M)- excellent- ***** classic
Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle - Four teenagers discover an old video game console(Ju- manji) and are literally drawn into the game’s jungle setting, turning into the adult figures ( Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan) they choose to be. Action-packed but the storyline was weak. Hate to say it for a Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black film, wait for it on DVD. Made - $387M U.S./ foreign- $537M (budget-$90M)- **1/2
Maze Runner: The Death Cure - The leader Thomas and friends ( Dylan O’Brien, Dexter Dar- den, Thomas Brodie-Sangster) embark on a mission to save their friend (Ki Hong Lee) and find a cure for a deadly disease. Started off slow, but picked up to making this a very good sci-fi thriller. Made - $56M U.S./ foreign- $215M- (budget- $62M)- ****
Den Of Thieves - An elite group of bank robbers called the Outlaws ( Pablo Schreiber, 50 Cent, O'Shea Jackson, Jr., Evan Jones) plan an seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank, but are investigated by an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff Dept. (Gerard Butler, Maurice Compte, Mo McRae). This well written, off -the-chain crime saga is well worth seeing for action fans. Check it out in the Dolby theater for the shoot out sounds. Director Christian Gudegast did a great job putting to- gether this suspenseful thriller and the surprise ending. Must -see! Didn't feel like it was 2hrs/20mins long. Made $44M (budget N/A)- classic
Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Director Rian Johnson starts the Last Jedi right where it left off with Rey (Daisy Ridley) struggling to get Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to train her and return back to the Resistance. Meanwhile, The Resistance ( Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Carrie Fisher) prepares to do battle with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order. Definitely a must see for the Star Wars fans. Enjoyed it. 2hrs/32mins long. Made - $618M / foreign- $711M-(budget-N/A)- ****
If Your Birthday Is Today: Race car driver Mario Andretti (1940) shares your birthday today. You are sensitive to the feelings of others and sometimes withdraw into your own dream world. You are versatile, talented and observant. This is a year full of excitement and stimulation. Embrace change and new opportunities. Be ready to act fast. Your personal freedom will be a top priority. You will travel this year and expand your horizons. Enjoy this busy, fast-paced year!
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20): Today Mercury in your sign is at odds with Mars, which is exacerbated by the fact that tomorrow, the only Full Moon all year opposite your sign will occur. Connect the dots. You are easily irritated with others! Chill out. By Friday things are much much better.
Aries (March 21-April 19): Be mindful of the restrictions of the Moon Alert today, especially if you’re shopping or spending money for business. This is also the time of day when some of you might have an argument with someone else. Remember: Patience is the antidote to anger.
Taurus (April 20-May 20): It might be difficult to get coopera- tion from a group today because someone disagrees with you — proba- bly someone who is younger. Just let this slide and wait until the Full Moon is gone by Friday. Things will be different then.
Gemini (May 21-June 20): Tread carefully today, especially when dealing with parents or bosses and authority figures, including the police. It is easy to be at odds with someone today, especially in the afternoon. Arguments with authority figures rarely improve things. Easy does it.
Cancer (June 21-July 22): Your wise choice today will be to steer clear of discussions about politics, race and religion because people are too hotheaded! (Not you, of course.) Intense discussions about the media or philosophical concepts in general are too controversial today.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22): Don’t get your belly in a rash discussing shared property, inheritances, insurance and such because the tempta- tion to have an all-out argument is brief. Wait this one out. Hey, every- one is tense before tomorrow’s Full Moon. Capisce?
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Be patient with partners and close friends today, especially later in the day when tempers are frayed. Why blow it with someone you love? (The truth is we get the most angry at those we love because there is so much at stake.) Chill out today. Every- one is a bit freaked before tomorrow’s Full Moon.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Fortunately, with the Sun and Venus in your work sector, it is easy to get along with work colleagues. Never- theless, because Mercury is at odds with fiery Mars today, people are short-tempered, especially at work or perhaps regarding a health-re- lated issue for you. Be patient with others. Show that Libran charm.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Romantic partners should be patient and tolerant with each other today. Likewise, parents and people work- ing with kids need to be patient with their kids to avoid a blowup. There’s a lot of tension in the air today, especially in the afternoon be- cause of tomorrow’s pending Full Moon. Stay chill.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Avoid domestic spats with some- one today because anger only makes everyone more miserable; it rarely solves anything. Whatever annoys you will be history by Friday (after the Full Moon tomorrow). Therefore, wait this one out. Be mature. Be adult. Fake it if necessary.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Be sensible today. Pay attention to everything you say and do. Tomorrow’s Full Moon energy is building up today — that’s for sure. This can make you impatient with others, which is why you might have an argument with someone this afternoon. Plus it can also make you accident-prone! Chill out.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Avoid a money quarrel today whether it’s about cash flow, possessions or a difference of opinion about a purchase. People are uptight because there is a buildup of en- ergy today before tomorrow’s Full Moon. By Friday, things will mellow out again. Keep the peace.
