 St. John Cathedral Held Mortgage-Burning Service
 St. John Cathedral held a mortgage-burning service on Sunday, January 10, 2021, to celebrate being debt-free of its properties. St. John, owners of Open Café, said all of their properties, including 8 houses are also debt free. The pastor, Elder Dwight Newkirk, and First Lady Artest Newkirk, were joined at the site by sev- eral of the church’s members for this event.
The church was able to pay off its debt before Thanksgiv- ing, even during the pandemic. (Photographs by Julia Jackson)
   Watching the mortgage burn are Elder and Mrs. Newkirk and Elder Patricia Moore.
   Among members on site for the service were: Janie Adams, John- nie Mae Lane, Eugene Dorns and Rachel Fields.
  Members, Lottie Pickens (95 years 0ld) and Elder Shirley G. Lanier witnessed the ceremony.
  Other members at the service were: Tony Parker, Donnie War- ren, Edward Johnson and Nor- man Fox.
 Elder Eddie Johnson lights fire to the mortgage as Elder and Mrs. Dwight Newkirk and others look on.
