Free Back To School Haircuts

For the 8th year, the Ren- isha Demoulin Foundation and its founder, Ray De- moulin, will be offering 100 free haircuts as a part of their annual back to school bash to be held Saturday, August 22nd.
Sponsored this year by Dunns River Restaurant, tick- ets to redeem for the free haircuts are available at Whoos Next Barbershop, 13753 North Nebraska Av- enue.
“It’s an honor to do this on behalf of my late daughter, Renisha,” said Demoulin.
“We’re also starting a mentoring program on Sep- tember 27th called Shop Talk. All young men who seek to be mentored are welcome.”
Demoulin said last year,

they served 3,000 people, and they’re expecting more, as the event has increased each year since it started.
“We will begin the free haircuts at 8 a. m., and we will also have thousands of free backpacks loaded with supplies.”

Black Journalists Accepting Applications For 2015 Griot Drum Scholarship Contest
The Tampa Bay Associa- tion of Black Journalists (TBABJ) is currently accepting applications for its 2015 Griot Drum Scholarship Contest.
The contest is open to stu- dents who are currently en- rolled in college or graduating high school students of color. The deadline to submit an ap- plication is October 9th.
The scholarship winners will be announced during the TBABJ Annual Griot Drum Awards and Scholarship Ban- quet. The banquet will be held on November 12th, at the Tampa Marriott Westshore, 1001 N. Westshore Blvd.

Previous contest winners are not eligible to participate.
Applications must also attend school or have once resided in Citrus, Hernando, Hillsbor- ough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinel- las, Polk, or Sarasota Counties.

Grant Provides Free Mammograms
Three organizations have united to offer a limited number of mammograms to women. The mammograms will be conducted by Moffitt Screening and Prevention, 4117 E. Fowler Avenue.
The free mammograms have been made possible by a new grant from the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Hungry Howie’s Pizza and Subs, Inc. The funding is the result of fundraising by Hungry Howie’s, through its organization Love, Hope & Pizza.
The company has been raising funds for breast cancer screening and prevention since 2009. The pizza company has donated more than $1 million to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to fund the free mammogram program throughout the United States.
Women hope to obtain a free mammogram must qualify. For more information or to obtain qualification requirements, contact Moffitt Cancer Center’s Patient Appointment Center at (813) 745-3980.
Back To School Fair
On Saturday, August 22nd, Tina Young will be the site coordinator at Middleton High School on the Back To School Fair.
The event will be held from 9 a. m. until 1 p. m., and for an appointment, call (813) 443- 3048.
The criteria to participate in the school fair is:
Parent or legal guardian must accompany child at all times.
Immunization record is required to receive shots.
Free physicals for chil- dren K-12.
Free immunizations for Medicaid or uninsured children K-12.
No Sports, Head Start
or Child Care Physicals.
The Back To School Coali- tion of Hillsborough County is hosting the fair as a health ini- tiative to make sure all the stu- dents are school ready.

Neighborhood Crime Watch Meeting Planned
Members of the College Hill Neighborhood Association will hold their Crime Watch Meeting on Wednesday, August 19th, be- ginning at 6 p.m. Cynthia Few is the President.
The meeting will take place at the Belmont Heights Commu- nity Center, Phase I, 1607 E. 25th Street.
The organization is asking those planning to attend the meet- ing to bring school supplies.
B-CU Alumni Accepting Applications for Scholarships
The Hillsborough County Alumni Chapter of Bethune-Cook- man University is currently accepting applications for Academic Scholarships. Andra Diggs is the President.
The organization will award (2) $500.00 Academic Scholar- ships, (1) per student, for the 2015 Fall Semester.
