Police arrested a Tampa woman and charged her with several felonies. The charges are the result of an incident that took place at University Square Mall during civil un- rest on May 30th.
Ms. Erica Schmidt, 31, was arrested at her home on Saturday. She is charged with 3 counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, throwing a deadly missile, ri- oting and inciting a riot, and unlawful assembly.
According to Tampa Po- lice, on May 30th, during the civil unrest, detectives re- viewed video. In one of the videos, they obtained evidence that a woman was advertising she had rocks and inciting fel- low protesters to take her rocks and throw them at the police. The woman was ob- served standing next to a Hyundai Elantra, silver in color. The vehicle was regis- tered to Erica Schmidt, po- lice said.
Three officers were at the scene of the incident when protesters intentionally threw rocks and other hard objects, placing them in imminent danger.
Police said Ms. Schmidt,

Police went to her home to arrest her, but she refused to come out. After several phone calls and the assistance of her family, she exited the resi- dence.
During an interview, she admitted to being present and that she and her boyfriend transported the rocks to the riot. She further said that the situation became violent to the point her vehicle was dam- aged and she was beaten up by fellow rioters.
The boyfriend was not identified or charged.
MARLI CHURCH
Tampa Police arrested three people last Thursday in connection with the protests. The suspects were all charged with felonies.
According to police, offi- cers were attempting to pro- vide a safe venue for the protesters to march and voice their concerns. A group of protesters marched through the downtown area, eventu- ally turning eastbound on E. Scott St. heading towards the I-4/I-275 on-ramp. Officers on the Bicycle Squad at- tempted to get ahead of the crowd, riding eastbound on the north sidewalk of Scott St.
A woman, later identified as Marli Church, attempted to strike officers, pushing the

A man, identified as Emadi Okwuosa, allegedly used a bullhorn to incite the group in an attempt to disrupt the flow of traffic on the inter- state. A second woman, iden- tified as Stephanie Sanchez, reportedly at- tempted to strike officers.
While making the arrests, the crowd became agitated and began approaching the officers who were making an arrest. Additional officers began commanding those in the crowd to back up. People

continued to approach offi- cers in an aggressive manner while objects were being thrown in the officers’ direc- tion.
One subject in the crowd sprayed a fire extinguisher in the direction of officers, in ef- fort to limit visibility. To en- sure the safety of the arresting officers and the subjects being arrested, deterrent spray was deployed to prevent further advancement. The crowd then began to retreat.
Church and Sanchez were arrested and charged with two counts each of as- sault on a law enforcement of- ficer. Okwuosa was arrested and charged with inciting a riot.
