Greater Tampa Bay Area Council Boy Scouts Of America Adds Pathfinder District Executive To Staff

Boy Scouts of America, Greater Tampa Bay Area Council, has added Kamara Mikel to its staff. She is the Pathfinder District Executive Director.
As District Executive, Ms. Mikel will give leadership to the Pathfinder’s District and help to grow and further de- velop the ScoutReach pro- grams.
“As Pathfinder District Ex- ecutive, I am charged with re- cruiting youth, from K-12, who live within blighted areas, to join the Scouts at a discounted rate. As with the scouting mis- sion, we instill core values in boys and girls that will last them a lifetime,” she ex- plained.

exemplary executive expertise. She earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), which afforded her the opportunity of running her own company for 20 years (1997 thru 2017), as well as working for city government
for 12 years. Her superior in- terpersonal skills allow her to deal with diverse groups of people; whether in a team set- ting or individuals.
“My expertise has afforded me the opportunity of working with C-Suites Executives: Chief Executive Officers (CEO’s), Chief Financial Offi- cers (CFO's), Executive Vice Presidents (EVP's), Vice Pres- idents (VP's), mayors, state of- ficials, city officials, government management heads, private corporations and companies,” she further explained.
Ms. Mikel is the single mother of 2 -- Brittani of Tampa and Oliver, who re- sides in Naples. She has one grandchild, Quentin, who is 6 years old.

Young Lions Youth Organization To Hold Book Bag Giveaway
The Young Lions Youth Organization, Inc., will hold their annual book bag give- away on Saturday, July 31, 2021. The event will be at Mid- dleton high School, 480 N. 22nd St. (33610), 10 a. m. – 2 p. m. The Tampa Bay Ray’s Mas- cot (Raymond) is expected to make an appearance be- tween 11 a. m. and 1 p. m., and will help to pass out book bags, along with Lauren Dungy.
This event is for children ages 5-18, who will receive a filled book bag. The kids must be in a vehicle to receive the book bag.
Among those assisting with this event are: Tony Dungy Family Foundation, WeSeeU, Inc., Italiano Insurance Serv- ices, and Daddy’s Girl.

Former Sheriff Cal Henderson Passes At 77
Former Hillsborough County Sheriff Cal Hen- derson passed away on July 16, 2021. He was 77-years-
old.Sheriff Henderson began his law enforcement career in 1965 with the Tampa Police Department, in 1967 joined the United States Border Patrol, and then served with the Central Intel- ligence Agency in South Viet- nam.
In 1969, he was hired by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy. Sheriff Hender- son rose through the ranks, eventually serving as the Major in each of the opera- tional divisions of the Sher- iff’s Office.
In 1985, he was promoted to Colonel of the Enforce- ment Operations Depart- ment. Cal Henderson served as an employee of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years, joining in 1992.
Sheriff Henderson was first elected in 1992, and re- elected four years later with- out opposition. In 2000, Sheriff Henderson was elected for a third term. He decided not to seek a fourth term and was replaced by Sheriff David Gee in 2004.
He served as the 28th Sheriff of Hillsborough County.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Henderson, who still resides in Hillsborough

County, his daughter, Sheri Portalatin, two grandchil- dren, David and Vanessa Portalatin, and his two sis- ters, Jackie Truesdell and Troy Taylor. His life and legacy will be remembered by numerous other family and friends.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said, “Sheriff Cal Hender- son was a remarkable man and selfless public servant for decades.
“His legacy and contribu- tions to our country, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and the community he proudly served will never be forgotten.”
