Temporary Road Closure Of Cypress Street To Begin September 6, 2016 For Water Main Construction

Saturday, September 10, 2016, the Saving Our Chil- dren Program will kick off its 28th year of serving young people in the community.
The program, an out- reach program offered by the New Mt. Zion M. B. Church, is open to young people 6-18 years old. Weekly Saturday sessions are held 9:30 a. m. to noon and are held at New Mt. Zion, 2511 E. Columbus Dr. Snacks are served at the end of each session.
According to Clarence Fort, founder of the pro- gram, on September 10th, the keynote speaker will be Dar- rell Daniels, Coordinator of Derrick Brooks Charities, and the Black-On-Black Crime Prevention Program.

what you earn, healthy eating, and the election process. There are also some fun activ- ities. The young people will be treated to the FAMU/B-CU football game in Orlando, as well as the annual cultural, educational and spiritual pil- grimage to a national youth event – this time in Birming- ham, AL. The annual ‘Career Day’ gives the young people an up close look at who they can become.
“Although it’s a program at New Mt. Zion, we invite the community to be a part. All young people in the commu- nity can benefit. There are people from all walks of life who come in and present at the weekly sessions. We want the parents to join their chil- dren and see just what we do on a weekly basis,” Fort said.
Richard Banks is the Saving Our Children Coordi- nator, Patricia Williams is the Youth Coordinator and Rev. Larry L. Roundtree, II is the pastor.
All Hillsborough County public schools and district of- fices will be closed on THURSDAY, Sept 1, due to the weather conditions ex- pected from Tropical Storm Hermine.
All extra-curricular activi- ties, after school events, and night school are also canceled for Thursday, Sept 1.
Schools are currently slated to re-open on Friday, Septem- ber 2nd.

A portion of Cypress Street from Willow Avenue to Oregon Avenue will be closed starting Tuesday, September 6, 2016 as part of a Capital Improvement Project.
The City contractor will be installing a 6”, 8” and 12” water main along Cypress Street between Willow Av- enue and Howard Avenue. The construction work is scheduled to be completed by January 2017, weather per- mitting.
The work will be com- pleted in four (4) phases to allow local access.
Phase 1 Willow Avenue to Oregon Avenue
Phase 2 Oregon Avenue to Rome Avenue
Phase 3 Rome Avenue to Albany Avenue
Phase 4 Albany Avenue to Howard Avenue
The City recommends using alternative eastbound routes to avoid traffic conges- tion.
