BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On Tuesday, members of the Hillsborough County Young Democrats elected one of its members to serve as its Interim President. The elec- tion came about because the current President stepped down to accept another posi- tion.
Cesar Hernandez, its current president, stepped down to accept the position of Director of Government Af- fairs at HART, (Hillsborough Area Regional Transit).
Hernandez said, “The YDs have allowed me to hone my political skills and under- stand my power as a voter, a young professional, and a voice. I look forward to my po- sition with HART, and seeing what the Hillsborough County Young Democrats are capable of doing in this community and in this state."
The members selected Ms. Maya Brown to complete his term. Ms. Brown served as the organization’s former Po- litical Director.
Ms. Brown attended the University of South Florida where she majored in Africana

Results Of Church’s First Food Pantry Give-Away Inspires Them To Do More

When Brenda Wash-
ington had to stop working
for health reasons, she won-
dered what the Lord had in
store for her. She couldn’t
just stop working and do
nothing. Then a man came to
her in a dream. “He was hold-
ing an empty box; he didn’t
say anything, and I didn’t say
anything. It dawned on me
that he wanted me to help the homeless and to feed the hungry.”
Ms. Washington shared the dream with her husband, Joe, who encouraged her to move forward with the vision. “It just con- firmed what my brother, Harlan Turner and I had talked about – to feed the hungry, homeless, poor, widowers or anyone in need... getting a building stocked with food to give to people when they needed it.”
Last week, with the assistance of their church, Northside Church of Christ Food Ministry/Servants of Christ, Ms. Washington said the ministry served 80 families on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, their first free food give-away.
The church’s food ministry served families on Tuesday, Novem- ber 17 and will do so again on Tuesday, November 24. In Decem- ber, they will serve families on December 19, 2015. The ministry will serve the first 75 families beginning at 10 a. m. The give-aways are held at the church, 6906 N. 50th St. (at Sligh), Tampa, 33617.
Starting in January, 2016, the Food Ministry/Servants of Christ (S. O. C.) will give out food twice a month.
“This is our story and our glory. This ministry was designed with God’s people in mind,” Ms. Washington said. “We are joyfully overwhelmed with the support of our church family; they never gave it a second thought; they welcomed this endeavor with warm hearts and meekness. This is also a positive effort to lead the lost to Christ,” she concluded.
The Leading Speaker of Northside Church of Christ is Arthur Taylor.
