They soon harness their abilities in order to save the world from an evil witch (former Ranger) named Rita (Elizabeth Banks). Must admit didn't expect this film to be good. Director Dean Israelite made this action film a sure hit. En- joyed it ! Must-see for kids and adults. Made $75M U.S./ foreign- $42M- (budget -$100M)- four out of four and then some.
Life - A team of scientists (Jake Gyllenhaall, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Aryon Bakare) are stationed on a Space Station discover a small flower life form from Mars that turns into a super intelligent flesh eating creature. If you like the Alien style films, then this sci-fi thriller will have you jumping. Definitely, not for kids. Made$26M (budget- $58M)- four out of four stars.
Beauty And The Beast (2017) - Disney and director Bill Condon revisit the Disney animated classic about a monstrous-looking prince (Dan Stevens) and a young woman (Emma Watson) who fall in love. Kids and adults will enjoy this film. Made -$435M -U.S./ $550M- foreign-(budget- $160M)- ****
Kong-Skull Island - A team of scientists (John Goodman, Corey Hawkins-played Dr.Dre/ 24 Legacy) and a military team ( Samuel Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Jason Mitchell-played Eazy E) explore an uncharted island where King Kong lives. The team must soon fight Kong and other creatures to get off the island. Enjoyed this outrageous Kong story which featured a good number of Black actors. How many will get off the island? Logan (2017) - A weary Wolverine-Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stew- art) and Caliban in a hideaway building on the Mexican Border. Logan’s peaceful world comes to an end when a young mutant-Laura (Dafne Keen) shows up while she is being pursed by a deadly corporation with killer assassins. This has to be the most violent Marvel film ever (R). The young mutant-Laura is off-the chain dangerous. Cyborg Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook) plays a very good villian. Made - $218M-U.S./ foreign- $378M- (budget- $97M)- ****
Get Out - Jordan Peele's horror/thriller is about a Black man -Chris) (Daniel Kaluuya) visiting his white girlfriend's- Rose (Allison Williams) family mysterious estate in upstate New York. Once arriving to the es- tate, Chris has to deal with the racial questions from Rose's family and friends. He is deeply disturbed by the Black servants on the estate as he soon realizes the family has a sinister secret that turns this film into a horror flick. Director Peele's of the comedy team of Key and Peele screenplay is twilight zone flawless as he received 100% from the movie critics. Must-see for horror fans. Made - $156M (budget- $4M)- ****
Split - M. Night Shyamalan (Signs) directs a pyscho-thriller about three girls (Ana-Taylor Joy) being kidnapped by a mentally disturbed man with 24 distinct personalities. McAvoy should have been nominated for an Oscar for best male actor. Psychiatrist Dr. Karen Fletcher (Betty Buckley) shoud have been nominated for best supporting actress. A well-written script from Shyamalan. Must see for fans looking for a pyscho thriller. Made-$137M (budget-$9M)- ****
Hidden Figures - Based on a true story, three Black women (Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae) provide NASA with ground breaking mathematical data needed to launch and land the program’s first space mission. An amazing true story about the trials, tribulation, and triumph these women had to go through to be successful. A feel-good film. Must- see for everyone! Made -$168M (budget- $25M)- *****clas- sic
