Mother Of Muslim U. S. Soldier Killed In Iraq Fires Back At Trump For Remarks About Her
GHAZALA KHAN
The mother of a U.S. Muslim soldier killed in Iraq has fired back at presidential hopeful Donald Trump for question- ing her silence during a speech by her husband.
Ghazala Khan said Trump was ignorant about Islam and that he did not know the mean- ing of the word sacrifice.
Her husband, Khizr Khan attacked the Republican nomi- nee in an emotional speech to the Democratic National Con- vention on last Thursday.
Trump later suggested Mrs. Khan may not have been al- lowed to speak.
The couple's son, U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, was killed by a car bomb in 2004 in Iraq at the age of 27.
In an opinion article for the Washington Post, Mrs. Khan said her husband had asked her if she wanted to speak at the convention but she had been too upset.
"Walking on to the conven- tion stage, with a huge picture of my son behind me, I could hardly control myself. What mother could? Donald Trump has children whom he loves. Does he really need to wonder why I did not speak?" she wrote.

GMO Labeling Bill
The majority of our food contains GMOs.
Soon all food packages sold in the U.S. will have to have the proper labeling.
On Friday President Obama signed bill S. 764 that puts into place a federal stan- dard for foods that have been made with genetically modi- fied organisms, ABC News re- ports.
This move comes just about two weeks after Congress passed legislation to necessi- tate labeling on all food pack- ages that indicates whether or not they contain GMO ingredi-
ents. “This measure will pro- vide new opportunities for consumers to have access to information about their food,” Katie Hill, White House spokesperson, told the news outlet.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton held a 6-percentage-point lead over Republican rival Donald Trump, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll with new wording that was released on Friday, the day after she for- mally accepted her party's nomination for the Nov. 8 election.
Nearly 41 percent of likely voters favor Clinton, 35 per- cent favor Trump, and 25
percent picked "Other," ac- cording to the new July 25-29 online poll of 1,043 likely vot- ers, which overlapped with the Democratic National Conven- tion in Philadelphia.
Former Secretary of State Clinton delivered an upbeat keynote address at the Demo- cratic convention on Thursday night, as she became the first woman to accept the presiden- tial nomination from a major party.
President Obama Speaks To Disabled Vets And At Fundraiser For Hillary In ATL
PRESIDENT OBAMA
Hillary’s Running Mate Has
President Barack Obama
visited Atlanta on Monday to address a conference of dis- abled veterans, meet with party leaders and headline a fundraiser for Hillary Clin- ton.
The visit, four days after the Democratic National Conven- tion, is set to be one of the first where the President uses his star power to raise campaign cash for Clinton this cycle. The two embraced on stage last week in Philadelphia, where President Obama hailed
Clinton as the heir to his po- litical legacy.
The only public event on his schedule is an address to the 95th National Convention of Disabled American Veterans at the Hyatt Regency in down- town Atlanta. A White House official said the speech will dis- cuss “how we can ensure our veterans receive the benefits they have earned, as well as continue expanding opportu- nities for our service members, veterans, and their families.”
Many say the 11 o’clock hour on Sunday is the most segre- gated time in America.
Breaking with that tradition, Sen. Tim Kaine, Democratic vice presidential candidate, has attended an integrated (well, technically “black”) church for more than 30 years. Kaine and his wife, Anne Holton, have been parish- ioners of St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church in what is described as a “poor predominantly black working- class neighborhood in Rich- mond, Va.” since the early ‘80s. Kaine has been a prac- ticing Catholic for his entire life, and his faith is a pillar in his life.
According to NBC News, the senator returned to the church for a recent Sunday mass after being named as Hillary Clin- ton’s running mate and told reporters about his introduc-

tion to St. E’s:
“Anne found it in the sum-
mer of 1984. We were married here in November of 1984, and this and our neighborhood are really the center of our lives here. So we needed some prayers today, and we got some prayers, and we got some support and it really feels good,” he said.
