BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Dorian Welch (aka Dow Juan) has become renowned in the area as an in- dependent filmmaker and pro- moter.
With the success of two films under his belt, Dow Juan is now prepared to begin production on his newest fea- ture, “Dow South Players University,” a comedy.
“As with any project, it takes funding, so I’ve decided to raise funds through tee-shirt sales and other ventures.
“The movie will be filmed in Tampa, and will feature music by Don “Magic” Juan, Chicago rapping legend Do or Die, FILA Phil from New Orleans Vizion, Jakafella, and many others. Antonio Daniels and Paul Harris are the actors.”
As with his past projects, Dow Juan always leaves the door open for local artists or aspiring actors to get involved.
“It is my intention to make Tampa and the surrounding area a mecca for entertainment

of all kinds.
“It takes a lot of people to
make something like this suc- cessful, and none are more im- portant than the people we’re trying to entertain. We want input on all future projects so we can keep in step with what’s happening.”

Legendary Band Performs At Downtown Lounge
If you were around during the late 1960s and early 1970s, you remember a band that burst upon the scene, and instantly rose to fame in the Bay area.
That band, now known as Andre Walker and the Mighty Good and Strong, performed before a packed house at the John Rolfe Lounge in downtown Tampa recently, and the fans can’t wait for them to return for an encore. (PHOTOS BY JULIA JACKSON)
