Dwight Howard Fined $35,000 For Obscene Gesture
DWIGHT HOWARD
Charlotte Hornets center Dwight Howard has been fined $35,000 for making an obscene gesture toward Cleve- land Cavaliers fans.
The NBA announced the fine Saturday.
Howard was captured on video mimicking a sexual act in the second quarter of the Hor- nets' 100-99 loss to the Cava- liers on Friday night.
A 14-year veteran and eight-time All-Star, Howard is averaging 15.5 points and 12.9 rebounds in 18 games this season.
Cavs Could Consider DeAndre Jordan-Tristan Thompson Swap
TRISTAN THOMPSON AND DEANDRE JORDAN
Would DeAndre Jordan be the missing piece to help the Cleveland Cavaliers better com- pete with the Golden State War- riors? They may think so.
Joe Vardon of Cleve- land.com reported on Friday that a league source believes the Cavs would consider a Jordan- Tristan Thompson swap. Vardon also adds that a first- rounder would “likely” be in- volved from Cleveland’s end as well.
The 29-year-old Jordan, who can be a free agent after the season if he declines his $24.1 million player option for 2018- 19, has recently been coming up in “multiple” trade conversa- tions. That makes sense with the Clippers at 6-11 on the year and maybe considering blowing it up with Patrick Beverley lost for the season due to knee surgery.
Meanwhile, Thompson, 26, is in Year Three of a fairly bad five-year, $82 million deal. However, adding a first- rounder could sweeten the pot for the Clippers, who have re- portedly been open to moving Jordan for months.
Tiger Woods Says He's Not Feeling Pain In His Lower Back
Tiger Woods will play competitive golf this week for the first time in 9 months. Here he is on the putting green. The 18-player field begins play at the Hero World Challenge on Thursday at Albany, the Bahamas.
After years of battling back problems that have lim- ited him to just 19 worldwide starts in the past 3 1⁄2 years, the biggest surprise for Tiger Woods as he attempts to re- turn to competitive golf again this week is the lack of dis- comfort -- not only playing golf, but in daily activities.
"The fact that I don't have any pain in my lower back anymore compared to what I was living with for years. ... it's just remarkable,'' said Woods, who underwent a fourth back surgery in April, which essentially removed the disk that has been caus-
ing nerve pain.
"It could be the next step,
I just didn't know [when the pain would occur],'' Woods said. "That's tough to live with. And it's been a struggle for years. To finally come out on the good side of it is excit- ing. I am stiffer. Of course, [his lower back is] fused. But I don't have the pain. Life is so much better.''
How much better his golf game is after years of struggle will begin to take shape this week at the Hero World Chal- lenge, an 18-player tourna- ment that benefits Woods' foundation.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Derrick Rose is staying in communication with the fran- chise's front office during his self-imposed exile, but his fu- ture status with the team re- mains unclear, league sources told ESPN.
Rose is deliberating whether he wants to work to- ward returning from a sprained ankle to rejoin the Cavaliers this season, or even continue his NBA career, league sources said.
Rose, 29, has missed 12 of the Cavs' 19 games this sea- son, including the past eight because of a sprained left ankle.
He left the Cavaliers on Wednesday, league sources said. Rose's increasing frus- tration with injuries is causing him to question his desire to continue playing, league sources said. The mental toll from a series of significant in- juries that have diminished
DERRICK ROSE
the production of the youngest NBA Most Valuable Player in history have played a part in the personal soul-searching on Rose's future, league sources said.
Rose signed a one-year, $2.1 million veteran's mini- mum deal to join the Cavaliers this season. So far, Cleveland has been patient with Rose's needs and shown no inclina- tion to suspend or dock his salary, league sources said. Because of the left ankle sprain, Rose isn't healthy to play now anyway.
