Officer Arrested In Prostitution Sting
A 44-year-old Palmetto woman entered a guilty plea last Friday to the theft of gov- ernment funds and aggra- vated identity theft in connection with tax fraud.
According to court docu- ments, Ms. Latronda Brooks opened an Urban Trust Bank account in her name, doing business as Magnificent Tax Services, and used it to deposit fraudu- lent tax refund checks.
These fraudulent checks were falsely endorsed with the taxpayer’s signature and deposited with a falsely en- dorsed “permission” form that purportedly gave Ms. Brooks permission to de-
posit third-party tax refund checks into her bank ac- count.
She reportedly spent the money on personal expendi- tures, including paying oth- ers involved in the tax fraud, and did not provide any of the funds to the taxpayer.
Ms. Brooks is facing a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The charge of aggravated identity theft car- ries a consecutive sentence of two years in prison. She has also agreed to a forfeiture money judgment in the amount of $327,521, which is the amount she reportedly received as a result of the tax fraud scam.
