HART Offering Free Rides To The Polls On Primary Election Day
There Is No Run-Off In This Race. It Is Winner Take All
Getting to the polls on Tuesday, August 30, on Pri- mary Election Day will be a lit- tle easier for Hillsborough County voters. HART is of- fering free rides to customers with a valid voter information card. The card must be pre- sented to the Bus Operator when boarding to receive the free ride.
"I appreciate HART's part- nership in helping voters get to the polls on Election Day. This is an important election be- cause several new school board members and judges will be elected during this Primary. These are nonpartisan races that everyone will have on their ballot, whether they are
affiliated with a party or not," said Craig Latimer, Hills- borough County Supervisor of Elections.
"As a community partner, we take pride in doing our part to offer free bus service to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to vote and are pleased to be able to offer this service to Hillsborough County residents," said Katharine Eagan, HART Chief Executive Officer. "By offering compli- mentary rides on Tuesday, August 30, we are highlight- ing the important role public transportation can play in helping people engage in the process and have their voices heard."
Patrons who present their valid voter information card will ride free to their closest local polling location. Simply show your valid voter informa- tion card to the Bus Operator when boarding for your free ride.
Riders are encouraged to determine in advance which routes will get them to, or close to, their polling places. To plan a Primary Election Day trip, you can use the trip planner feature of OneBusAway or the Google trip planner feature on www.goHART.org.

ED NARAIN
... Candidate for State Senate, District 19
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On Tuesday, August 30th, the Primary Election for Hills- borough County will take place. Those individuals who have not already voted during the Early Voting period or who have not voted by mail will cast their bal- lots.
This election will decide who the winners are in most of these elections. Craig La- timer, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections said, “This is an important election because several School Board members and judges will be elected during this Primary on August 30th.
Residents can vote from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., at any of the designated Early Voting loca- tions. Voters who wait until Tuesday, must vote at their as- signed precincts. The voting hours are from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
“In these races, if a candi- date wins by more than 50%, the race will be decided. If no candidate gets at least 50% of the vote, that race will go to a runoff in the General Election. And these are nonpartisan races that will be on everyone's ballots, whether they are affili- ated with a party or not.”
In addition to the local of- fices, voters will also choose a U. S. Senator; State Senator for District 19; and State Represen- tative for District 61. Voters will also select a Clerk of Circuit Court; Sheriff; Property Ap- praiser; and County Commis- sioners.
Rep. Ed Narain, candi- date for the State Senate Dis- trict 19 Seat said, “There is NO runoff election in most of these races. The person with the most votes will win on Tuesday night. The State Senate, State Repre- sentative and County Commis- sion races could all be decided by just a handful of votes.
“Everyone needs to vote this weekend or on Tuesday and en- sure their friends, neighbors, co-workers and church mem- bers vote. This is especially im- portant in the state-level races where we could lose our com- munity’s representation if we do not turn out and vote.
“Too many people are fo- cused on November when it’s this Tuesday’s election that will have the most impact on our daily lives. We must vote.”
DIANNE HART
... Candidate for State Repre- sentative, District 61
Ms. Dianne Hart, candi- date for State Representative, District 61 said, “Local races are critical because politics starts locally. We must get out and vote in record numbers in the Primary Races, which are typi- cally the races that have a low turnout.
“But, if we really want to make a change, then the only way is to vote.”
