Man Charged In
Man Charged With Beating Convenience Store Employee
    Early Morning
 Lakeland Police have ar- rested a man and charged him with murder in connec- tion with a fatal shooting. The incident took place on Tues- day around 6:30 a.m., near the 1500 block of Fairbanks Street.
According to police, when officers arrived, they found a 36-year-old man suffering from gunshots. He was trans- ported to Lakeland Regional Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
During the investigation, detectives learned that prior to the shooting, the victim and Deandrae Gary were inside the home engaged in a verbal argument. The witness told police he left the resi- dence prior to the shooting.

parked vehicle in the front yard, he heard several gun- shots coming from inside the home. The witness ran back to the home and found the victim lying on the floor with gunshot wounds.
Gary was taken into cus- tody and charged with first- degree murder.

A 35-year-old man w a s arrested last week and has been charged with felony battery with great bodily harm. The victim was an em- ployee at a convenience store.
According to the Lake- land Police Department, last Friday, shortly after 5:30 p.m., police were called to the Food Mart/Mobil Gas Station, 1615 W. Memorial Blvd. When the officers ar- rived, they found an adult man lying motionless on the floor with a laceration to his head.
According to a witness, a
in the store asking for ciga- rettes for payment at a later date. The clerk told him no and Baker reportedly ap- proached another store em- ployee with the same request and was told no again.
Baker is alleged to have ran toward the employee, punching him in the face. The 56-year-old victim fell backwards and hit his head hard on the floor. His injury is considered a critical, life- threatening injury. The vic- tim was transported to Lakeland Regional Health, where he was listed in criti- cal condition.
    11-Year-Old Student Arrested For Having
Gun On Campus
Police arrested an eleven- year-old middle school stu- dent Friday afternoon. He was charged with having a loaded handgun on school property.
According to the Tampa Police Department, another student told school adminis- trators that the child had a gun in his backpack. A Tampa Police Resource Officers was informed of the situation and immediately removed the child from his classroom at Monroe Middle School. Dur- ing the search, a loaded hand- gun was discovered in his backpack.
There was no threat made to any individual or the school. The student was
charged with being a minor in possession of a firearm, car- rying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm on school property. He was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan said, “I am proud of the student who stepped up and said some- thing to keep others safe. We need everyone in our commu- nity to learn from the actions of this brave student. I ask anyone who has information on someone who should not have a gun to tell us, tell Crimestoppers, or tell anyone who will let us know.”
The Sentinel chose not to release the name of the child.
