One Hour After ‘Peaceful Rally’ 6 People Are Shot
BIRMINGHAM, AL --- A shooting in Birmingham, Ala.’s Gate City public housing community has left one dead and five injured.
The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. Sunday, about one hour after a peace rally in Lewis Park came to an end. According to Birmingham police spokesperson Sgt. Bryan Shelton, all six of the victims were innocent by- standers.
“When the shooting started happening, people started dis- persing, which is why our scene is as large as it is,” he told the site.
None of the five surviving victims were in critical condi- tion, Shelton said. Police had also not officially identified the deceased victim; however, friends on the scene identified him as Bobby Clayton.

Shelton said it was disap- pointing that the tragedy oc- curred in a community that was trying to rally against vio- lence.
Macy’s Reaches Major Deal With Apple
Cincinnati-based retail giant Macy's Inc. signed a major deal with Apple to carry the iconic brand's products in its department stores.
Macy's president and in- coming CEO Jeff Gennette said during a Goldman Sachs retail conference that Macy's signed a deal with Apple to host an Apple store in its New York flagship Herald Square location. It will be the first de- partment store to house an Apple store within its walls.
Macy's will also be the first department store to sell the Apple Watch, a new version of which was released on Sept. 7, at more than 180 stores by the holiday shopping season.
“It will be in all of our top buildings for the holiday sea- son,” Gennette said.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD -- Monday, Zakieya Avery, 31, admitted in a Montgomery County, Md., courtroom that she killed her two youngest children during what she thought was an exor- cism. She also admitted to at- tempting to kill her two other children, too.
Self-described as the “demon assassin,” Avery, along with her roommate, Monifa Sanford, 24, report- edly stabbed the four children, ages 18 months to 8, with a serrated paring knife. They said at the time that it was the only way to cleanse them of demons.
According to the Washing- ton Post, Brian Sheffer- man, Avery’s attorney, will try to show that Avery should be sent to a locked hospital by proving that she was legally in- sane at the time of the attacks. She had also apparently been hospitalized several times for mental illness before this case.

9 Dead In Worst Fire In Memphis Since 1920
MCKENZIE, AL --- An an- nouncer at a high school foot- ball game made his feelings very clear for those who choose not to stand for the Na- tional Anthem.
According to a report, the announcer at the Friday night game at McKenzie (Ala.) High School in Butler County said that those who choose not to stand “can line up over there by the fence and let our mili- tary personnel take a few shots at you since they’re taking shots for you.”
Facebook user Denise Crowley-Whitfield posted about the announcer’s appar- ent comments, adding that “the entire crowd went crazy cheering.”

atives who also posted about and praised Joyner’s state- ment.
Sweet Home Baptist Church also stood by its pas- tor, saying that Joyner’s words were “taken out of con- text and misquoted several times over.” However, that post was deleted after about an hour.
MEMPHIS, TN -- Nine peo- ple died in a Monday-morning house fire that fire officials are calling Memphis, Tenn.’s dead- liest fire in almost a century.
According to the report, Memphis Fire Director Gina Sweat said that one child pulled from the home is still struggling to survive.
Fire officials said that 10 people were in the home when crews responded around 1:22 a.m. Authorities say the house fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in an air condi- tioning unit's power cord in the living room.
The Memphis Fire Depart- ment released the cause of Monday morning's deadly fire as relatives and friends mourned their loved ones.
Sweat called it the deadliest fire in Memphis since the
1920s.
According to reports that
family members said that three of the deceased adults were identified as 56-year-old Carol Collier, 27-year-old LaKisha Ward and 61-year-old Eloise Futrell. The children, they said, ranged in age from 3 to 16.
