Plant City Community Gearing Up For Black Heritage Events

The Plant City commu- nity is gearing up for its 2018 weekend of Black Heritage
events. The excitement be- gins on Friday when the gala is held and concludes on Sunday with the Gospel Con- cert.

weekend of excitement. Ms. Sharon Moody is Chair- person of the Plant City Black Heritage Celebration, Inc., and Ms. Cynthia Bai- ley is the Co-Chairperson.
“This event coincides with Black History Month and provides a great oppor- tunity for the Plant City com- munity to honor the rich cultural history of African Americans nationally and as importantly, locally,” Ms. Moody said.
The 15th Black Heritage Gala, a paid event, is being held on Friday evening, Feb- ruary 9th, at 6:30 p. m. in the Trinkle Building on the cam- pus of Plant City’s Hillsbor- ough Community College. The theme is Embracing the Past and Building The Fu- ture.” Atty. Jeraldine Williams will be the keynote speaker and Atty. Jeria Wilds, Assistant State Attorney, will serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies.
The event will also fea- ture the Johnson Family that appeared on Steve Harvey’s Little Big Shot TV show.

ruary 10th, the Youth Summit will be held, starting at 9 a. m. and concluding at 12 noon. The summit will be held in the East Hillsborough Historical Society Museum on Collins St. in Plant City. Several prizes will be given away during the summit.
Following the summit, there will be a “Battle of the Bands” and Dance competi- tion, featuring R. Anthony from “The Voice” Season 7, and Becky S. Knighten, performing her single, “Prison Bar TV.”
Kicking off at 12 noon will be the 14th Plant City Jazz Festival, at the Robert W. Williaford Train Museum, 102 N. Palmer St.
Sunday afternoon, Feb. 11th, at 4 p. m., the Black Heritage Gospel Concert will be held at Mt. Olive M. B. Church, 604 Ball St., Plant City. The choirs from Mt. Olive and the Plant City Church of God Choir will be featured.
