Riverview Native Serving Aboard U.S. Navy Ship Forged From 9/11 Steel
NORFOLK, VA --- As the Nation prepared to observe the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, a Riverview, Florida, native was serving in the U. S. Navy aboard a ship built using steel from the World Trade Center.
On Sept. 11, 2001, Lt. Nick Driscoll, was in the seventh grade watching the towers fall on a roll-out TV in the library of Teague Middle School.
“I sat there with 25 other 12-year-olds not knowing the world as we knew it would change forever,” Lt. Driscoll said.
With more than 90 per- cent of all trade traveling by sea, and 95 percent of the world’s international phone and internet traffic carried through fiber optic cables lying on the ocean floor, Navy officials continue to empha-

“I joined the Navy to be a part of something bigger than myself. 9/11 was and contin- ues to be a motivating factor behind my service. Being able to prevent another 9/11 in any way I can, was the driving force behind my decision to join the Navy,” Lt. Driscoll said.
