Annual ‘Feeding The Community Event’ Planned

Members of the commu- nity are invited to attend the Annual “Feeding The Com- munity Event” that will take place on Saturday, No- vember 10h, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will be held at New Mount Zion Mission- ary Baptist Church, 2511 E. Columbus Drive, Tampa, 33605.
This is the ninth year that organizations have united t0 prepare the holiday meal as part of their Thanksgiving Outreach.
The event, is being hosted by the East Tampa Business and Civic Association, and is being sponsored by the Health Matters, the 29th Street Church of Christ,
Strong Life Christian Min- istries, Simply Healthcare, and the Eddie Session Foun- dation, among others.
Ms. Dianne Hart, CEO of the East Tampa Business and Civic Association said, “We are having the dinner earlier this year because I will need to be in Tallahassee later this month.”
Ms. Hart was recently elected to serve as the State Representative for District 61.
She further said, “This is our annual multi-cultural cel- ebration and we are inviting everyone to come out, sit down, and enjoy a hot, tradi- tional Thanksgiving meal.
“In addition to the meal, we will also give away gro- ceries and clothing for those in need. They will also offer health screenings.”
She further said the organ- ization is still accepting dona- tions, gently used clothing and non-perishable food items.
Anyone who would like to make a donation can drop it off at the office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday.”

Popular Young Barber Dies In Motorcycle Accident

A 33-year-old popular Tampa barber died in a traf- fic accident Saturday. The accident took place at N. Ne- braska Avenue and E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd., shortly after 8:30 a.m.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu was turning left from Ne- braska Avenue onto Dr. Mar- tin Luther King, Jr., Blvd., when he violated the right of way of a motorcycle traveling southbound.
The motorcycle struck the right front side of the ve- hicle. The driver of the mo- torcycle, identified as John Lopera, died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle re- mained at the scene and co- operated with officials.
The investigation is con- tinuing and charges are pending. The street was closed for several hours fol- lowing the accident.
Lopera was a popular barber and owner of the Cigar City Barbershop in Ybor City. He recently moved the shop to a larger location.
Lopera was married and his wife is pregnant with their second child. He is the father of a 1-year-old daugh- ter.
His family has created a gofundme account. The go- fundme page states: “Our good friend Johnny Lopera, owner of Cigar City Barbershop in Ybor City, passed unexpect- edly on the morning of Saturday November 3rd, 2018. With a heavy heart, we ask for your help in support of his wife, their 1-year-old daughter, and the 2nd child they are expecting. Funeral arrangements are only the beginning for Johnny’s family and

100 Black Men Accepting Applications For Pathways To Success

The 100 Black Men of Tampa Bay, Inc are still accepting ap- plications for their Pathways to Success 2019. The program is free and open to male and female high school and college stu- dents.
The deadline to submit an application is Friday, No- vember 16, 2018.
The Pathways to Success Program spans 18 weeks, begin- ning in January 2019 and ending in May 2019. The program addresses deficiencies in basic business competencies for stu- dents who are interested in the corporate workplace and/or en- trepreneurial market place. They will learn business, corporate and entrepreneurship skills.
The students receive real life hands on learning; coaching and mentoring from top executives; and business acumen and Corporate America training.
It will take place at Hillsborough Community College, Ybor Campus, 2112 N. 15th Street, Tampa, FL 33605.
