TYLER SKAGGS
The Los Angeles Angels an- nounced on Monday that pitcher Tyler Skaggs has died at age 27, and police have provided some new details.
According to a press release from the Southlake Police De- partment, Skaggs was found dead at the Hilton hotel after a report of an unconscious male came in on Monday afternoon. While the cause of death has not been determined or re- vealed, police say no foul play is suspected.
Southlake Police later up- dated their statement to add that suicide is also not sus- pected.
Warriors Announce They Will Retire Kevin Durant’s Jersey
KEVIN DURANT Kevin Durant may have
decided that spending three seasons with the Golden State Warriors was enough, but the team still has plans to recog- nize him as one of the most important players in fran- chise history.
On Monday, Warriors owner Joe Lacob an- nounced that Durant’s No. 35 jersey will be retired. He called Durant “an integral part to one of the most pro- lific runs in NBA history” and said no player will ever wear that number for Golden State again.
Cori Gauff: Wimbledon's

Inaugural 3M,
Return For The Open
Tiger Woods confirmed that he will not play in next week's 3M Open and will re- turn to competition for The Open Championship in Northern Ireland beginning July 18.
Woods has not played since tying for 21st at the U. S. Open earlier this month. He wasn't expected to play in next week's inaugural event in Blaine, Minn., despite missing the cut at the PGA Championship last month after remaining out of com- petition following his win at the Masters in April.
Woods told ESPN that he plans to "enjoy some family time" and will prepare for the year's final major at Royal Portrush by playing at home.
He is ranked No. 5 in the world and needs one win to tie Sam Snead's record of

82 PGA Tour victories, but has acknowledged that at 43 years old, he needs to plan his schedule carefully -- es- pecially with the new sched- ule featuring six prominent events -- including all four majors -- over six consecu- tive months.
Woods has won 15 major championships, including three Opens (2000, 2005, 2006).

Prodigy Who Has Been
'Raised For Greatness'
Most 15-year-olds are studying history at school. Cori Gauff, though, has made it.
The American had already set a record by becoming the youngest player to qualify for the main draw of Wimbledon in the professional era, but on Monday the rising tennis star went one step further, seeing off her idol Venus Williams on day one of the tournament.
The youngest had beaten the oldest, with the 39-year- old going down 6-4 6-4. It felt like the passing of the flame and Gauff, who is known as Coco, was in no mood to tamp down such ex-

pectations.
"I want to be the greatest,"
she said, evoking boxing icon Muhammad Ali.
Hard-hitting talk indeed, but a look at her meteoric rise shows it's not an unreal- istic.
Colin Kaepernick Reportedly Pushed Nike To Pull A Betsy Ross Flag-Themed Air Max 1

Man Who Reportedly

Colin Kaepernick's cul- ture influence just keeps growing.
This week, Kaepernick reportedly pressured Nike to pull a sneaker that he consid- ered offensive, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The Fourth of July-themed sneakers had a Revolutionary War-era, 13-star American flag on the heel. The Betsy Ross flag, as it's known, flew during a time when slavery was very much present in the U. S.
In a statement to the WSJ, a Nike spokesperson said: “Nike has chosen not to re- lease the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it fea-
tured the old version of the American flag.”
Nike pulled the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July sneaker, which was supposed to drop this week, offline and from stores to which it had been shipped. Although the company didn't acknowledge Kaepernick's influence in the decision, the WSJ credits the activist and former NFL player with bringing the com- pany's attention to the flag's history. According to the WSJ, Kaepernick reached out to Nike, with whom he made that iconic ad last year, after seeing photos of the sneakers online. He has not commented on the matter.
On Friday (June 28), the Dominican Republic police arrested Victor Hugo Gomez, the man it believes orchestrated a shooting in early June that left former MLB player David Ortiz hospitalized. Gomez was detained in the country.
In previous reports, Gomez reportedly crafted the shooting that was in- tended for his cousin, Sixto David Fernandez.
Allegedly, the latter shared information with the D.R.’s law enforcement offi- cials on Gomez’s illegal ac- tivities that led to his arrest in 2011. The gunfire was re- portedly meant for Fernan- dez, but struck Ortiz who was with the former that day at a restaurant. Gomez

pleaded his innocence via his attorney Carlos Rubio.
“I want to clarify that I have nothing to do with any attempt on the life against Sixto David Fernandez. We’re family,” Gomez said. Since then, Ortiz has been cleared from intensive care but remains in a Boston hos- pital. He endured a bullet wound in his lower back.
