About The Victim
Hassell’s mother re- ported him missing after she had not heard from him on Thanksgiving Day.
According to the Wilson Funeral Home webpage, Hassell’s funeral will be held on Saturday, December 14th, at 12 noon at the fu- neral home.
Hassell was a native of Manassas, Virginia. He moved to Tampa in 2010. His only child was born in September of this year.
A barber by trade, Has- sell had a passion for music and dreamed of becoming a rapper.
On December 1st, a 21- year-old man was discov- ered fatally shot in the Live Oaks area. After the crime, detectives with the Tampa Police Department released a video targeting a teenager as a person of interest.
The released footage was in connection with the mur- der of Miguel Raines, who was killed in the 4300 block of E. Deleuil Avenue during the early morning hours.
When officers arrived, they found Raines had been injured by gunfire and immediately began life-sav- ing measures while waiting on Tampa Fire Rescue. Raines was transported to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
Days later, detectives stated in a press release that they were attempting to identify and make contact with a female captured in the video. Detectives believe she may have information that could help with their in- vestigation.
They also said the female in the video was not consid- ered a suspect at this time.
The Sentinel has learned that the female in the video is reportedly 15- years-old. Her mother, who did not want to be identified, said the family has received more than 1,000 threats by text, calls, and emails since the video was shown on the 5 p.m. news Wednesday.
“After I saw the video, I took my daughter to the po- lice station. I was told by the detectives that my daughter was not who they are looking for. They wanted to know in- formation about the stolen car shown in the video.
“If they knew she wasn’t

the person they were looking for, then why did they re- lease the video? When that shooting occurred, my daughter was home in bed. The video was taken before the shooting and police said they thought she knew something about the car.
“This is why people don’t talk to the police. They throw us out there and use us like bait. Personally, I don’t understand why they would put her out there like that. Because they released that video, we have had to leave our home and go into hiding.
“I’m afraid for my life and my family. One friend’s house has been shot up since this happened. These people are serious and they will kill us. Our lives are in danger.”
The mother also stated that she knew Raines and has known his family for a long time.
The investigation is con- tinuing and detectives are asking anyone with informa- tion about the murder to contact the Tampa Police Department at (813) 231- 6130. Callers can also con- tact Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873- TIPS or online at www.crimestopperstb.com.
