  Organizations To Host Community Barbecue
On Saturday, June 8th, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Tampa chapter of Moms De- mand Action for Gun Sense in America, will host a com- munity barbecue. The event will take place at Fair Oaks Park Community Center, 5019 N. 34th Street, Tampa, 33610.

The event is free and open to the public. Those in atten- dance will have an opportu- nity to enjoy food, fellowship, music, and there will be activ-
ities for the children. The or- ganization will also provide 300 take-home groceries for families in need.
The organization is also collecting new and gently used sports equipment, such as balls, bats, gloves, football pads, etc. to donate to local schools for children in need. Please bring donations to the barbeque.
The organization selected the color orange because or- ange has long been the color of gun violence prevention. Some of the people planning to attend the event includes survivors, students, elected officials, teachers, commu- nity leaders, parents, and children.
Ministry Is Tackling The ‘Shhh...’ Of Domestic Violence
 BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Domestic Violence. No one really wants to talk about its effects. But, Yolanda Lee- George, owner and CEO/Founder of Yol-Over- come Ministries, wants to talk about the cause of domestic violence and some solutions.
She hopes to do that this Saturday, June 8, 2019, 2-5 p. m., when the “Help Stop Do- mestic Violence” workshop will be held. The site location is Chester H. Ferguson Event Center, 1610 N. Tampa St. (Tampa, 33602).
Prophetess Lee- George, a survivor of 10-1/2 years of abuse by an ex-hus- band, says, “Come, let’s talk about domestic violence.” She adds, however, “Please do not come bringing insults and judgments.”
She does want the conver- sation to include: 1) the effects domestic violence has on the

children, 2) the effects on the family and loved ones, 3) what causes one to abuse, 4) what causes the person to stay, and 5) how to get to the root issues of this demon called abuse.
In addition to these topics being discussed, Prophetess Lee-George said those who attend will hear from pastors in the community, educators in the community, and women who have overcome abuse.
“Prayerfully, an abuser will step up and talk about WHY!,” she said.
Yol-Overcoming Min- istries is a Christian, Counsel- ing Ministry. “Our purpose is to become that voice that will speak on behalf of those that are NOT YET able to speak out on their own concerning the pain that they have endured through life,” Prophetess Lee-George explained.
The wife of Lorenzo George, Sr., and mother of 5, who has 3 bonus children and 9 grandchildren, she has been recognized numerous times by many agencies for her bravery to speak out about her abuse and share why it took her 10-1/2 years to get out. She has also written a 3- part series that travels through some of the abuse she and her family endured.
