Non-Profit Organization To Honor Golf Legends
BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Businessman George E. Shaw is not a profes- sional golfer. However, those who are acquainted with him know that he loves the game and hangs around golf courses often.
Because of his love of the sport of golf, this week- end, Shaw will be hosting a golf tournament to honor 4 history-making profes- sional golfers, who Shaw refers to as legends: James Black, Sr., Jim Dent, Sr., Bobby Stor- ble and the late Calvin Peete.
The 501-C-3 non-profit, Unheard History Save A Child, Inc., of which Shaw is the President, will be hosting the Golf Tourna- ment on Saturday, Febru- ary 17, 2018 with the
4-man, shotgun start at 1:30 p. m. (See Advertise- ment in this issue for addi- tional information)
But Shaw is excited about what will take place before the shotgun start. From 9 a. m. until 12 noon, there will be several free events: golf clinic, photo shoots with the golf leg- ends and Pepper Peete, wife of the late Calvin Peete; free golf lessons and free breakfast. Several young people are expected to participate in these events.
Proceeds from the tour- nament, that will be cov- ered by the Golf Channel and local news media, will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of America, First Tee Golf Program, Zeta Phi
Beta Sorority Boys Men- toring Program, Women of Color Golf Program and the United States Blind Golf Association.
“Unheard History Save A Child, Inc. is dedicated to operate exclusively for education and charitable purposes. Our mission is to inspire and motivate youth to utilize their imag- ination and creativity to excel by sharing untold stories of little known great golfers,” Shaw ex- plained.
The Tournament will be held at The Links of Lake Bernadette Golf Course, 5430 Links Lane, Zephyrhills, FL 33541.
