Keepers International To Honor ‘Mentor Of The Year’

Dr. Ron Ellis, a mentor to many young men in the county, will be honored as the ‘Mentor of the Year’
Keepers International is hosting its Marriage Retreat October 6 and 7, 2017, concluding with a gala Saturday evening. The event will be held at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay. In its 3rd year, Keepers International Couples Gala is sponsored by and partnered with local and national professionals. Keith and Kimberly Solomon are founders of Keepers International and hosts of the weekend events. Pastors Jomo and Charmaine Cousins will also assist with the events,
The highlight of the weekend will be the presentation of awards, specif- ically the ‘Mentor of the Year, 2017- 2018’ to Dr. Ronald L. Ellis. Also, awards will be presented to the Young Adult Couple of the Year and Couple of the Year. Seven couples are listed among the finalists.

Having served as a mentor to nu- merous student athletes and others, Dr. Ellis has served on the Executive Advisory Board of Fellowship of Christian Athletes Foundation, a di- rector of the FBI Citizens Academy, Chaplain of the Armwood High School Football Team. Dr Ellis is married to Ann Ellis (for 42 years),
and they are the parents of 3 children and 8 grandchildren.
Friday’s event, The Marriage Box, is free and open to the public. Dr. Haile and Pamela Lindsay will co- ordinate this casual event.
Saturday’s events begin at 8 a. m. Marriage Seminars with dynamic speakers will be held, 8 a. m. – 12 noon, followed by the renewal of vows on the beach, 12 noon-12:30 p. m. The attire is casual.
The hosts for the formal Marriage Gala at 7 p. m. will be Pastors Do- minic and Paula Watkins, ECC Tampa. In addition to the Mentor of the Year Award, couples will also vie for Young Adult Couple and Couple of the Year Couples will also be compet- ing for other prizes – best dancer, best dressed and oldest married cou- ple.
Couples listed among the finalists are: Pastors Jerry and Mar- guerite Isaac, Pastors Stacy and DeNae LeMay, Pastors Mike and Bea Dukes, Pastor Nathaniel and Dr. Jessica Cole, Damian Soto and Jessica Santiago, Elder J. and Christina Allen, and Floyd and Dr. Monique DeMiller.

Christian Entrepreneurship Conference
The Christian Entrepreneurship Conference will be held at Florida Southern College’s Honeyman Building, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, Florida on October 7th . The theme will be “Learn How To Start And Run A Business. Becoming A Christian Entrepreneur – Focusing On The Disadvantaged And Underprivileged.” There is an admission fee. The program is presented by the Ministry of Remembrance and the Central Florida Business Diversity Council.
Scholarship Banquet
The Rose Heights Elks Lodge and Temple will be holding an Education Scholarship Banquet on October 28th. It will be held at the Coleman Bush Building in Lakeland.
This event will benefit at-risk kids who are economically dis- advantaged and who honestly seek to turn their lives around. Scholarships will be used to assist them in attending colleges, uni- versities and trade schools.

New Life Outreach Ministry Banquet
New Life Outreach Ministry will be holding its 28th Annual Ban- quet at Harvest Church, Airport Road in Lakeland. The Banquet will be on Friday November 3rd.
As the premiere facility for the homeless in Lakeland, the funds will be used to continue in ministering to “the least, the last, and the lost” in our community. The men’s choir from New Bethel AME Church will be providing musical entertainment.
