Rep. Shaw To Serve On Hurricane Committee
BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Representative Sean Shaw is one of the members of the House of Representa- tives who were selected by Speaker of the House, Rep. Richard Corcoran to serve on a Hurricane Committee. Rep. Jeannette Nunez, Speaker Pro Tempore, is the Committee Chair.
The Select Committee on Hurricane Response and Pre- paredness will have the au- thority to gather information, solicit ideas for improvements and make recommendations to the Governor to address Hurricane recovery.
“It is an honor to be chosen to represent the Tampa Bay Area on this Select Commit- tee. I look forward to working with my colleagues to improve our preparations and response to hurricanes throughout the state,” Rep. Shaw said of the appointment.
Hurricane Irma devas- tated the entire state, but Governor Rick Scott’s quick action made sure Florid- ians were informed, able to prepare, endure and begin the process of recovery. Recovery is still in progress around the state.

O. J. Simpson’s Attorney Continues To Blast Attorney
General Pam Bondi
O. J. SIMPSON ...was released October 1st
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Last week, Florida Attor- ney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Julie L. Jones, Florida Department of Corrections Secretary pertain- ing to the release of O. J. Simpson from prison after serving 9 years for armed rob- bery.
In the letter, Attorney General Bondi said, “Floridians are well aware of Mr. Simpson’s background, his wanton disregard for the lives of others, and of his scofflaw attitude with respect to the heinous acts for which has had been found civilly liable. The specter of his

residing in comfort in Florida should not be an option. Numerous law en- forcement officials in Florida agree with this position. Our state should not become a country club for this convicted crimi- nal.”
The Nevada Parole Board granted Simpson parole in July. He was released from prison October 1st, and officials said he plans to live in the Las Vegas area for the time being.
However, his attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, says his plans are to move to an undis- closed location in Florida in the future.
At the time Attorney Bondi issued the statement, Attorney LaVergne said, she is “possibly the stupidest person on the planet.” He also said, “What a complete stupid B----, F--- her.”
When contacted by the
Sentinel, Attorney LaVergne said he stands by the comments he made earlier about Attorney Bondi.
“He’s a 70-year-old Black man. You can’t tell Black peo- ple where to live anymore. She has no right to even comment on him. ...
“Several years ago, as a young Black man, Simpson attempted to move into Bel Air, and was told he wasn’t wanted. But, how do you ban someone from a whole state?
“Her comments touched a nerve. He (Simpson) was dis- turbed by her comments hav- ing been through that before. I am a Black man and I thought we were past that in this coun-

try. But, it seems the problem is getting worse.
“I don’t think she is very bright. She may be smart about getting elected, but she’s not bright about anything else. And now that we’ve had this mass shooting here, I’ve heard she is coming to Nevada.
“We don’t need her coming to our state. She’s just trying to score political points tagging along behind the president,” he said.
Attorney LaVergne said Simpson lived in Florida be- fore he went to prison and has family in the state as well. And, if he meets all requirements, there are no laws that would allow Attorney Bondi to block his moving back to Florida.
Attorney Bondi further stated in the letter that if Simpson is allowed to return to Florida, “The defendant must report to his parole offi- cer in-person and not by mail; The defendant must wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, his travel must be substantially restricted; and the defendant must not consume any alcohol or drugs and should be tested on a regular basis.”
Attorney LaVergne said that amounts to stalking and that “she is too dumb to realize that she is encouraging people to stalk him.”
He further said that since Attorney Bondi made the statements about Simpson, he has received telephone calls and emails even from Simp- son’s distracters stating that she (Bondi) does not have the right to bar him from the state.
