Members Surprise Pastor For 25th Anniversary
BY JULIA JACKSON
“I wondered why they were in a hurry to walk me out to my car.”
The members of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church surprised their pastor for his 25th Anniversary as their Shepherd.
With many churches worshipping virtually through live stream with a limited number of members in the sanctuary, St. Matthew is among those congrega- tions. However, members are finding ways to continue
many of the pre-planned events.
The Reverend W. D. Sims walked outside the church on Lake Ave. on Sun- day, April 26th, to the sounds of police sirens and horns blowing. His members were staged in the parking lot to surprise him.
Through tears of joy, he said, “My members truly sur- prised me. I wondered why they were in a hurry to walk me out to my car. I’m over- joyed and proud to be their pastoer these past 25 years. Thank you all.” (Photos by Julia Jackson)
Pastor Sims surprised at the gesture of his members.
Deacon Bowman joined the vehicle parade.
Deacon Gregory Taylor was there to support the Pastor.
Deacon David Walker as- sisted with details of the event.
Parishoners were led by police escort as they passed through the church’s parking lot to wave and wish Pastor Sims ‘Happy An- niversary.’
