The Memphis Grizzlies are trading guard Patrick Bever- ley to the Minnesota Timber- wolves for guard Jarrett Culver and forward Juancho Hernangomez, sources told ESPN's Adrian Woj- narowski.
Jamal Adams is the high- est-paid safety in the NFL -- by a wide margin. Adams and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a four-year, $70 mil- lion contract extension -- mak- ing him the highest-paid safety in NFL history (in terms of av- erage annual value). The deal can reach up to $72 million.
Adams will make $17.5 mil- lion annually, $2.25 million more per year than Justin Simmons -- who makes $15.25 million per year for the Denver Broncos. Adams is just the second safety with a total contract value of more than $70 million, joining Washington's Landon Collins -- who signed a six- year, $84 million deal in 2019.
"Man, it's a block off my shoulders," Adams said, "Just so excited to be a part of such a unique organization. Always been a fan. Still a fan. But it just makes it that much

J. R. SMITH
GREENSBORO, N.C. – When the NBA came courting during his senior season at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, the scouts kept telling him one thing.
“They always told me I could go back (to school) whenever,” said Smith, who had committed to the Univer- sity of North Carolina.
So, after finishing as the co- MVP at the McDonald’s All- American Game in 2004, Smith opted to head directly to the NBA. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard played profes- sionally for 16 seasons and won NBA titles with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
The 35-year-old is retired now and about to embark on a new adventure, enrolling at North Carolina A&T State University, one of the nation’s top HBCUs, to pursue a de- gree in liberal studies. Maybe those NBA scouts were right after all.
“So, this is whenever,” said Smith, shortly before he split the fairway with his opening drive during the pro-am at the Wyndham Championship.
The 6-foot-6, 200-pounder starts classes on Aug. 18. He is also waiting on the NCAA and to sort out his eligibility, and when it does, Smith, who plays to a 5 handicap, is looking to join the Aggies’ golf team.
Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid has signed a four- year, $196 million supermax contract extension, sources told ESPN.
The Sixers announced Tues- day morning the 7-footer has signed a multiyear deal with the team, but did not disclose details of the contract.
The extension keeps Embiid under contract with the Sixers through the 2026-27 season for a total of $261 million. The four- time All-Star already was set to
