Family Continues To Fund Scholarship In Honor Of Their Hero
BY MONIQUE STAMPS Sentinel Feature Writer
Although our children often admire sports superstars and entertainers, the commu- nity’s teachers are the unsung heroes in their lives. In cele- bration of the distinguished life and legacy of one of Tampa’s finest teachers, the annual Annie L. Robertson Memorial Scholarship was born.
Mrs. Robertson made the journey home to be with the Lord on October 5, 2010. She was an exceptional educa- tor at St. Peter Claver Catholic School for many years. She was a Sunday School teacher and used her leadership to es- tablish a college scholarship
program at the church. Mrs. Robertson was a staunch supporter of higher education. The words of Nelson Man- dela sustained her - “Educa- tion is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Since 2013, her family has raised thousands of dollars to continue her enormous gifts to the community. Her widow, Mr. Wilson Robert- son, Jr. and her children, Horace, Vandelon and Turkesia, as well as sons-in- law, Eric and David, have worked tirelessly to help African American students pursue their post-secondary education goals.
