B-CU Loses Final Game To South Carolina State

Best IN SWAC: Grambling Routs Southern In Bayou Classic
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – South Carolina State rolled off 21 unanswered points and eased to a 28-7 victory over visiting Bethune-Cookman on Saturday afternoon in Mid- Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) football action at Oliver C. Dawson Bulldog Sta- dium. The season finale for both teams, the game was a makeup game from an earlier scheduled October contest be- fore being moved due to Hur- ricane Matthew.
South Carolina State's
Mykal Moody, who switched from wide receiver to quarter- back midweek, rushed for a game-high 158 yards and three touchdowns and passed for another score for the host Bulldogs.
Meanwhile, Bethune-Cook- man was limited to just 72 yards rushing on 37 attempts. The Cats would use redshirt freshman quarterback Akevi- ous Williams throughout the game in place of the injured Larry Brihm, Jr.
The 43rd annual Bayou Clas- sic was one of the most antici- pated matchups in recent memory with both Southern and Grambling State entering the game unbeaten in SWAC play.
It appeared from the outset that this would be a classic close affair with the team’s only sepa- rated by a 17-13 halftime score.
However, Grambling domi- nated the second half to pull away 52-30. It was a statement victory for the Tigers heading into next week’s SWAC title game against Alcorn State.
Southern entered the Bayou Classic plus-17 in turnover mar- gin. But a pair of first-half turnovers — both involving quarterback Austin Howard — stunted the Jaguars ability to get anything going against
Bayou Classic Grambling and Southern.
Grambling.
Dispatching previous un-
beaten Southern by 22 points en route to a division champi- onship and a trip to the SWAC Championship Game in Hous-
ton next Saturday cemented Grambling as the clear-cut best team in the conference. The Tigers have won its 10 games this season by an average of 19 points per contest.

North Carolina A&T Loses In First Round Of FCS Play
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State football team responded emphatically with their biggest half of the season, a 41-point second half boom, and zipped past Miles College 53-20 on Thursday to cele- brate homecoming while rekindling the pageantry and tradition of the 93rd Turkey
Day Classic at ASU Stadium. Alabama State (4-7) sent out their senior class in grand fashion as 19 players stepped onto the field for the last time as a player and scored 53 unanswered points after falling behind in the early go-
ings of the game.
RICHMOND, Va. – Both No. 17 North Carolina A&T and No. 12 Richmond entered the first round of the NCAA FCS playoffs with disappoint- ing loss the prior week to over- come.
But considering each team had two very different goals at the outset of the 2016 season, it seemed as if Richmond had the easier adjustment as they advanced to the round of 16 with a 39-10 win over the Ag- gies Saturday evening at Robins Stadium.
The Spiders have had their sights on a national champi- onship since the start of the season.
Meanwhile the Aggies came into the season looking for an- other appearance in the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl which brings with it a substantial payout, a MEAC championship and an oppor- tunity to win a black college football national champi- onship.
But along the way the Aggies lost their top two quarterbacks in sophomores Kylil Carter and Lamar Raynard.
Despite those two signifi- cant losses, things were look- ing good for the Aggies until they entered a matchup of un- defeated teams in the MEAC last week with the Celebration Bowl on the line.
The Aggies were defeated by archrival North Carolina Cen- tral 42-21 in Durham, N.C., sending the Eagles to the Cel- ebration Bowl and the Aggies to their first playoff bid in 13 years.
