Judge Denies Bond For Murder Suspect In Beating Death
JESSIE HARRIS, JR. ... Bond denied
A Hillsborough County Circuit judge de- nied releasing a murder suspect on bond Thursday. The defendant is accused of beat- ing another man to death last month.
After Judge Eric Myers denied bond for Jessie Thomas Harris, Jr., Harris, broke down and cried.
Prosecutors said the on-going dispute between 56-year-old Gregory Walker and Harris, 49, was over a woman. The dispute culminated in a violent confrontation that ended Walker’s life.
Walker was transported to Tampa Gen- eral Hospital on November 10th, after he had been involved in the fight in front of the God Star Sunoco in the 2300 block of N. Ne- braska Avenue. He died a few hours later.
Detectives arrested Harris at his Bran- don residence on December 20th.
During the bond hearing, prosecutors showed a video taken from the store’s cam-

eras that showed Harris inside the store wearing a yellow shirt and black hat. He ex- ited the store and saw Walker, who was walking down the street.
Within minutes the two men started fighting. A woman, only identified as Ms. Daniels, witnessed the entire fight and tes- tified during the bond hearing.
Ms. Daniels said Harris had Walker in a choke hold and Walker was telling Harris to turn him loose, but Harris didn’t. “First, his hands and legs were mov- ing to get out of this choke hold... and then he didn’t move anymore,” she testified.
Prosecutors said Walker was rendered unconscious and died at the hospital.
Harris’ attorney argued that Harris wasn’t a danger to society and that it was a dispute between two people.
Judge Myers disagreed and ordered that Harris remain in jail until his trial.
