Woman Driving Electric Scooter Killed In Accident
Readers Share What They Are Grateful For As Year Ends
A 20-year-old woman was killed after being involved in a traffic accident on Christ- mas. The accident occurred at the intersection of Sheldon Road and Hamilton Avenue.
Ms. Isabel Alarcon Ma- teus was operating a Razor Electric scooter at approxi- mately 11:34 p.m. The scooter did not have rear lights and was not a legal motor vehicle, police said.
Brian Edward Joyner,
47, was driving a 2003 Pon- tiac Vibe, southbound on Sheldon Road and did not see the scooter. His vehicle struck the scooter and Ms. Mateus was ejected from it. She was transported to St. Joseph‘s Hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries.
Ms. Suzeth Ojeda Perez
was driving a 2014 Nissan Sentra southbound and struck the school after the ac- cident occurred.

As the calendar year comes to a close, many peo- ple take this opportunity to reflect over the past twelve months. They think about what has happened, what is happening now, and what they want to happen in the future.

Man Killed In Single-Car Accident
A 32-year-old Hillsbor- ough County man was killed after his vehicle struck a tree. The accident took place at 12:25 a.m., Saturday.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, Erick M. Almanza was driving a 2000 Lincoln Town Car westbound on Symmes Road at a high rate of speed. He was just east of U. S.
Highway 41 when he at- tempted to pass several cars. As Almanza approached
the railroad crossing, he lost control of the vehicle and went off the north shoulder of the road.
The vehicle struck a tree and Almanza, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene.
Man Killed After Pulling Into Path Of Train
An accident involving a CSX train and a motor vehi- cle left a 38-year-old man dead. The accident took place on Paul Buckman Highway, in Plant City.
According to police Nicholas Benigni, of Riverview, was driving a 2016 Toyota Tundra on Paul Buckman Highway, ap-
proaching a private drive. Benigni was traveling west- bound on a private road when he failed to yield and pulled into the path of the train. The train applied its brakes and traveled approxi- mately one half mile before it was able to stop.
Benigni died at the scene, police said.
Pedestrian Killed In Traffic Accident
The Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office investigated a traffic accident Friday that left a man dead. The accident oc- curred on Gibsonton Drive. The accident occurred at 7:54 p.m.
According to police, Fe- lipe Montoya, 38, stepped into the path of approaching traffic and was struck by a
2005 Dodge Ram, driven by 62-year-old Joseph Bowles.
Montoya was transported to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died about two hours later.
Bowles nor his passenger, Ms. Effie Bowles were in- jured in the accident.
Child, 11, Killed In Traffic Accident
An eleven-year-old boy died after being involved in a traffic accident Saturday af- ternoon. The accident took place at Highway U. S. 301 and Walker Road.
According to police, Daniel J. Morales, of Thonotosassa, was a passen- ger in the 2003 Saturn Ion Ms. Magdalena Morales, 26, of Thonotosassa, was driving.
Ms. Morales was travel- ing southbound on Walker Road, approaching U. S. 301. She allegedly failed to yield
and attempted to cross U. S. 301.
At that point, she was struck by a vehicle driven by Ms. Joy L. Confer, 53, of Riverview. Ms. Confer was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio.
Daniel Morales received fatal injuries and died at the scene. Ms. Morales, Ms. Confer, and Ms. Confer’s passenger, Timothy Hicks, 49, of Riverview, all received minor injuries.
The investigation is contin- uing and charges are pending.
