Breaking Down Ungodly Strongholds
Lord, I thank You that You have promised in Your Word to deliver us when we cry out to You. I come to You on behalf of (name of child) and ask that You would deliver him (her) form any ungodliness that may be threatening to become a stronghold in his (her) life. Even though I don’t know what he (she) needs to be set free from, You do. I pray in the name of Jesus that You will work deliverance in his (her) life wherever it is needed. I know that although we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). I depend on You, Lord, to give me wisdom and revelation. Show me anything I need to see regarding him (her).
There is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. MATTHEW 10:26

And Life Changing Opportunities
Showcases Achievements, Longevity,
The University of South Florida Upward Bound Pro- gram (USF UBP) celebrated a momentous 50-year milestone (1966-2016) of Pride, Service, and Success during the week- end of September 30-October 2, 2016. The festivities includ- ing a Friday night Meet and Greet at Lee Roy Selmon’s Restaurant, an elegant Satur- day alumni luncheon featuring local and national advocates, entertainment at Ybor Jazz House, and an inspiring church service on Sunday.
Upward Bound emerged from legislation enacted by the U. S. Congress as part of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. It is a federal TRIO pro- gram designed to help eco- nomically disadvantaged students complete high school, prepare to enter postsecondary education, and achieve success at the postsecondary level.
USF UBP under the ground- breaking leadership of Dr. Richard Pride, Mr. Bob Davis, Dr. Sharman McRae, and current director Raymond Cabrera has a proven track record of break- ing barriers in college enrol- ment and completion locally and nationwide. th
The historic 50 Anniver- sary luncheon took place from 1 to 3 p. m. at the Marshall Stu- dent Center Ballrooms on Sat- urday, October 1st. All ticket sales were donated to the Dr. Richard F. and Eva L. Pride Endowment Scholarship.
The banquet opened with Mr. Cabrera and current stu- dents welcoming attendees, which included Hillsborough County School Board Member Ms. Doretha Edgecomb, veteran TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) directors, Ms. Reba Garth of USF and Der- rick Brown of HCC, and nu- merous high level university, government, and national leaders. USF Vice President for Student Success Paul Dosal spoke on behalf of system Pres- ident Dr. Judy Genshaft, as he reinforced university sup- port and highlighted the im- pact of Upward Bound both at USF and in the community.
TRIO proponent Kathy Castor, U. S. Representative for Florida’s 14th district, spoke about her invaluable advocacy that protected USF UBP from losing funding in the face of se- vere budget cuts in 2008. Congresswoman Castor recognized USF UBP’s past, present, and future successes that continue to contribute to progress nationwide. UBP Stu- dent Government President, Joel Phanord described how USF UBP has helped him build confidence, excel academically, and prepare him for success in postsecondary education.

Human Resources at the Council for Opportunity in Ed- ucation, credited the program’s longevity to the relentless com- mitment of program staff and students in partnership with government, university and community advocates.
Program director Cabrera spoke of major program achievements and individual contributions. Current stu- dents offered a dance and spo- ken word performance to demonstrate the uplifting power of USF UBP to motivate and enable students to achieve their goals.
Next a brief but detailed video documented a half cen- tury of achievements inter- weaved with the words and legacy of Dr. Richard Pride. Mr. Cabrera then recognized the lifetime achievements of former program coordinator Christine Scourtes, past Polk site manager and residen- tial coordinator, Don Williams, longtime residen- tial and pageant coordinator, Pat Solomon, program alumnus and former director,
Mr. Bob Davis, and previous program director and Dr. Pride’s daughter, Dr. Shar- man McRae. Ms. Chloe Coney, District Director for Congresswoman Castor, was honored as distinguished alumna as she shared memo- ries of Dr. “Papa” Pride and urged attendees to “Keep the Legacy going and knowing that we are going to do great things in the community.”
USF UBP alum and SSS stu- dent, Tracy Vilvert shared how she was rewarded a USF Foundation scholarship due to her involvement and achieve- ments in both programs. There were also numerous presti- gious alumni in attendance. To close out, Chloe Coney’s fel- low 1960s alumni shared how they transcended their circum- stances as a model for genera- tions to come.
