Prince's Siblings Denied Request To Get Money From Estate
PRINCE’S SIBLINGS
Big Sean Explains Why He’s Releasing ‘Detroit 2’ During Coronavirus Pandemic
Siblings of the late Prince hit another roadblock in their attempt to receive money from his estate.
A judge denied a petition for compensation filed by Prince’s heirs — Sharon, Norrine and John Nelson — according to documents ob- tained by The Blast. The group claimed estate representative Comerica Bank has paid $20 million to lawyers and advisors without sending them a dime. In the petition, they requested payments of $20,000 a month.
“Comerica, on behalf of the Estate, has simply used the Heirs efforts and desire to be helpful and informed as gratu-
itous labor, taking advantage of the Heirs time, advice, serv- ices and work provided with- out wages or compensation,” the group alleged. “Unlike all others who have been exces- sively paid millions of dollars for their time.”
Prince’s siblings said they’ve been relying “solely on their pension, social security, personal savings and loans from friends” to support the estate. Comerica Bank argued the IRS is undervaluing the es- tate and requested time to sort it out before issuing payment. The judge expressed sympathy for the heirs but claimed he didn’t have the authority to grant their request.
The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the plans of artists throughout the music industry, but Big Sean in- tends to proceed with the re- lease of his Detroit 2 album.
In an interview with The Rap Pack podcast, the Def Jam rap- per confirmed he’s not waiting for things to settle down before dropping his fifth studio LP.
“Honestly, I deal with so many other people when it comes to putting an album out,” he said. “Especially when you on a label and all these things.”
BIG SEAN
Another factor in Sean’s de- cision is the constantly evolv- ing outlook on when society
can return to some normalcy. The fight against COVID-19 is filled with uncertainty, which is why the Motor City MC doesn’t wanna be stuck playing the waiting game.
“We heard different time- lines,” he explained. “People like, ‘It’s only gonna last few ... It should be up by this time in April.’ And then it just keeps expanding, right? So, you hear things about how streams are down and all these things, but I also believe in making music for a cause — for a purpose — to heal, to help, to inspire.”
Pop Smoke Documentary In The Works
Pop Smoke’s posthumous album isn’t the only project being developed in honor of the late rapper. Steven Vic- tor, who served as Pop and Pusha T’s manager, revealed he’s working on a documentary to memorialize his client in an interview with Complex.
“I’m working really, really hard on this Pop Smoke album,” Victor said. “And I’m working on a documentary for

him, too. And his foundation. I’m just really focused on mak- ing this label like the next Jimmy Iovine and Inter- scope.”
Pop, whose real name was Bashar Jackson, was shot and killed during a home inva- sion in Los Angeles on Febru- ary 19. He passed away less than two weeks after releasing his Meet The Woo Vol. 2 album on Republic Records.
2 Chainz, Offset And YG Win ‘Proud’ Lawsuit
The rapper who accused 2 Chainz of ripping off his music for the 2018 single “Proud” has reportedly dropped his lawsuit against the song’s creators.
According to The Blast, Solomon Clanton (a.k.a. Slugga) dimissed his entire case against 2 Chainz, Offset and YG. All three were named de- fendants in a suit that alleged their collaboration stole multiple aspects from Clanton’s own track titled “Proud,” which was released in 2015.
2 CHAINZ
Clanton previously claimed 2 Chainz’s version of “Proud” copied his “I’m just tryin’ to
make my mama proud” hook, call-and-response technique, style of intro, time signature and climatic moment. The rapper known as Slugga was seeking profits from the more famous “Proud” and an injunction to stop the song from receiving any additional radio play.
Although Clanton dis- missed his case, he did so with- out prejudice. That means it’s possible for him to refile against 2 Chainz, Offset and YG in the future.
DJ Jazzy Jeff Shares His COVID-19 Scare With Will Smith
DJ Jazzy Jeff opened up about his recent bout with COVID-19 in a conversation with his old friend Will Smith. Jeff detailed his symptoms and re- vealed he completely lost track of time while he was sick.
“I came home from my trip and was like, ‘I feel like I’m com- ing down with something,'” he explained. “And [I] got it in the bed; don’t remember the next 10 days. I had a temperature that reached about 103 [degrees]. I had the chills. I lost sense of smell. I lost sense of taste. They gave me a flu test.”
Smith was taken aback by the

veteran DJ’s inability to get tested for the coronavirus. Yet Jeff knew something was wrong and soon learned he was suffer- ing from severe pneumonia,
which has been caused by some cases of COVID-19.
“When I went and got the chest x-ray, she came in and she said, ‘You have pneumonia in both your lungs,” he told his Fresh Prince partner.
Smith said he realized it was serious when Jeff’s wife called him with “panic vibes” because she doesn’t panic. He also joked about replacing his longtime DJ with D-Nice if things went side- ways.
Thankfully, Jeff was able to recover, but he fears many more people will be facing COVID-19 scares.
