Senior Games
Community Center In West Tampa Has Official Opening

Rev. Dr. George Berry
won a bronze medal in the 400 meter dash during the 2016 Florida Senior Games State Championships, in Clearwater, FL. The event was held December 11, 2016. His age group competition was 65-70 years old. The top 4 qualifiers are selected, but the top 3 receive medals.
On the local level, that put him in first place for the Tampa Bay Championship. The next level will be State, leading to the National Championship in 2017.
Dr. Berry has qualified to represent the State of Florida at the 2017 National Senior Games Championship com- petition in Birmingham, Ala- bama in June. This event occurs every 2 years, and par- ticipants qualify a year in ad- vance.
Dr. Berry has been in- volved in track and field events for more than 30 years. He is a member of the Florida Athletic Club. He trains at the University of Tampa with track coach, Dror Vaknin, owner of Pro- gressive Training.

Enjoying his retirement years from Property Manage- ment, Dr. Berry says he spends a lot of time running and working out “to encour- age the kids I work with” at Bloomingdale High School and ministerial activities. He is the sprint coach at Bloom- ingdale High.
“If the kids see you ex- celling at this age, they’ll want to do the same thing, they’ll see that it can be done, if you work hard. My goal is to run a lap with my grandson.”
Dr. Berry is an active minister at New Mt. Zion M. B. Church. He and his wife, Lo Berry, are parents to son, Aaron (his wife, Tiffany).

The date represented the 75th an- niversary of when the Armory was inaugurated on December 8, 1941 – the day after the at- tack on Pearl Harbor. It is lo- cated at 522 N.
