The CDC of Tampa, Inc., was founded by Mrs. Coney to alleviate poverty, racial dis- parities in housing, and the deterioration of neighbor- hoods. She concentrated on a four-mile section of town where she held marches to stop drug sales and crime. Her areas of concentration were then and remain home-
ownership, employment, edu- cation, healthcare, criminal justice, and private invest- ment.
Since its inception, the or- ganization has a proven track record of making inroads in accomplishing their goals and improving the lives of citizens in the East Tampa community and throughout Hillsborough County.
It has also branched out to become the support organiza- tion for two collective impact initiatives, financial stability and violence prevention.

Club Manager Disputes Police Account Of Shooting
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Early Monday, the Tampa Po- lice Department responded to a shooting in the 5100 block of N. 40th Street. When they arrived, they discovered two people had been shot.
Reports say when officers ar- rived at the scene, they learned that a fight had preceded the shooting in front of Club 1828 that led to gunfire.
Ms. Samarra K. Durham,
of Tampa, had suffered a gunshot to her leg. Keith A. Myles, 27, was shot in the lower back and buttocks. They were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with non- life threatening injuries. Both are expected to recover, police said.
Marlon Wright, Manager of Club 1828 disputes the account of the shooting. He stated that the shooting actually took place in the street in front of a business next door to the club.
He further said that the club had closed at 2:30 a.m., and their parking lot was empty at the time. “None of the people involved in the shooting were patrons of the

club that night. Since the club has been under new owners, there hasn’t been any shootings there in the last 3 years. We try to make sure that our patrons are in a safe environment. That account of the incident is incorrect,” he said.
Police have not released any additional information about the shooting. However, they said in- vestigation into the shooting is continuing.
They are asking anyone with any information about the shoot- ing to contact the Tampa Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS, or www.crimestopperstb.com.
