Burying the ashes
Perhaps you would like to have the ashes buried. You may also want to arrange a gathering of family and friends to say farewell.
Burying the ashes, usually in a casket or urn, means you have a place that you could visit, and could put up a memorial.
You may be able to bury ashes:
■ In the garden of remembrance at the crematorium
■ In a churchyard
■ In a grave
■ At a woodland or burial ground
■ In your own back garden
We can tell you whether you will need permission for the place that you are considering for scattering or burying the ashes. You will need to show the certi cate of cremation and we will be happy to help you arrange everything.
Keeping the ashes
People often choose to keep the ashes at home in a speci cally designed urn or casket, perhaps so they can be scattered or buries with the ashes of someone else, or just kept close to the family. Or you could have part of the ashes incorporated in a piece of jewellery, like a locket or keepsake.
The choices
There are options such as planting a tree, sponsoring a bench, or repatriating the ashes to another country. Again, we can help with these options.
After a burial
We can help you choose a headstone memorial and inform you of the rules at your local cemetery. Memorials can help provide comfort for many people, giving them a place to visit, lay owers and re ect on happy times. When choosing a memorial it is important that you have time to re ect on your decision and understand the di erent regulations that may a ect your choice. If the person who has died has been buried, you may want to think of a memorial gravestone.
If it is a family grave, you may want to have a new inscription, or replace the memorial if it is damaged. Di erent cemeteries have di erent rules about when a gravestone may be put up and may insist on waiting at least six months for the ground to settle before the stone can be put in place.
Some things to consider when selecting a headstone memorial:
■ The type of stone - like granite or marble
■ The colour
■ The Shape
■ The lettering - style and colour
■ The words
■ Whether you want a photo plaque or any designs on it.
We can help support you with selecting the headstone which is right for you as well as any special design features.
