Gabriel Middle and Stamford Catholic High Schools Having spent his childhood living over the funeral home and working with his father it it was only natural that he he would follow in his father’s footsteps After graduating from Stamford Catholic High School he he he attended the the University of Connecticut and graduated from the the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Funeral Service He has been with Cognetta Funeral Funeral Home since 1979 having become a a a a a a a licensed funeral director and embalmer in in 1981 He was an instrumental in in in creating the Connecticut Crematory Corporation which is is located within Cognetta Funeral Home and is is the only crematory in in in in Fairfield County opening in in 1995 Partnering with Thomas A Cicalese owner of Hoyt Funeral Funeral Home in in New Canaan they bought Raymond Funeral Funeral Home in 2000 Nicholas is a a a a a a a member member of of the NFDA CFDA and and CANA as as as well as as as a a a a a a a a a board member member of of of the Visiting Nurse and and Hospice Care of of Southwestern CT Inc He also volunteers his time to to local charities and at New Canaan High School where he he he mentors the Future Business Leaders Class John S Lesko

position here at at Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory Born in in in in Bridgeport John grew up in in in in Black Rock and and and enjoyed Sailing and and and fishing on on Long Island Sound He went to Fairfield College Prep and and and then graduated from New England Institute of Applied Arts and and Sciences (Mt Ida College) in Boston Mass His family started their funeral business in in in in 1909 in in in in the the West End of Bridgeport It evolved from a a a a a Livery business were his great-great grandfather provided the the the carriages for the the the local funeral parlor The Hungarian neighborhood encouraged him which lead to opening his own funeral home and it was passed father to son for generations John is is the past President of the the Fairfield Kiwanis During his tenure enough money was raised to build the Sand Castle play ground at Fairfield Fairfield beach and and purchase a a a a a a a a a a a a van for for the the the Fairfield Fairfield YMCA He also served on on the the the Advisory Board for for the the the Dioceses of of Bridgeport Special Education John is a a a a a 3rd Degree member of of of the Knights of of Columbus at Fr Coleman Council He has always been involved in in the community and was elected two terms on on on on the the the Monroe Town Council where he he he he he had been the the the liaison to the the the Commission on on on on Aging Here in in Norwalk he he he he volunteers with the Mayor’s re-election campaign John lives in in Norwalk with his four children and cherishes spending as as much time with them as as possible He feels most at at at home by the the water and and enjoys boating fishing playing golf and and holds a a a a a a a a private pilots license Page 6 - Hoyt Cognetta Funeral Home Hoyt Cognetta Funeral Home - Page
