East Haven Memorial Longobardi – Brennan Funeral Home, located at 425 Main Street in East Haven has been at this same location and is one of the three oldest businesses in town. We opened our doors in 1939 and have provided service and comfort to the people of this community since then.
However, the Longobardi – Brennan family has combined for more than 125 years of funeral service to both the East Haven and New Haven areas. Before moving over the Q bridge with his wife Angelina, founder Salvatore Longobardi worked with his father Dominic Longobardi at Longobardi and Sons Funeral Home on the corner of Chapel and Chestnut Streets in New Haven. Today, David Salvatore Brennan, Sal’s oldest grandson, and fourth generation funeral director continues their proud legacy in East Haven.
Sal left his impact throughout this entire area with his community involvement. He was a charter member of the Amerigo Club, which was made up of first and second generation Italian Americans living in East Haven. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Knights of Columbus, Father Regan Council 3300 and the East Haven Exchange Club. He would also become a member of the Democratic Town Committee and in 1954 was elected to hold the position of Tax Collector. A Post he held for fourteen years. In 1969, he made an unsuccessful bid for Mayor; however, he remained active in politics until 1983, when illness forced his retirement from both politics and his funeral business.
Sadly, Sal passed away in 1989 but left the business in the very capable hands of his only daughter Josephine Longobardi Brennan. Josephine, or JoAnn as she was affectionately known to her friends, took the blueprint that her father gave her and added her own personality and professionalism and continued to run and grow the business for the next 25
