Josephine, or JoAnn as she was affectionately known to her friends, took the blueprint that her father gave her and added her own personality and professionalism and continued to run and grow the business for the next 25 years. JoAnn, like her dad was also very active in town. She was one of the people who organized and ran a carnival for St. Vincent dePaul Church. She was a member of the East Haven Democratic Women’s Club and a President for both the New Haven Funeral Directors and the Connecticut Funeral Directors Associations.
In 1985, JoAnn’s oldest son David would graduate from Embalming School and head home to help his mother run the business. In 1990, David’s younger brother Jim would also graduate and join them to round out the family staff.
In the spring of 2013, Jim would go on to pursue other opportunities, leaving David the sole owner and funeral director operating East Haven Memorial Longobardi – Brennan Funeral Home. At the present time, David is celebrating his thirty-fifth year as a licensed funeral director and is also very involved in his community.
The business has undergone several renovations and upgrades over the years and is currently on the cutting edge of creating beautiful audio/ video memorial presentations for their families. The exterior space has also expanded to provide more off-street parking. This may be one of the oldest businesses in town, but throughout the years it remains a place where people go to grieve, find comfort and to heal.
