We weren’t satisfied with just an amazing backdrop, we felt it was important to provide some interesting and unique features that fit within our theme as well. Our first step was the design of the hall itself. The entrance makes a great framework for both intimate shots and group photos – particularly grand exits! The old tin and barn wood, the backlit stained glass and great after dark backlighting all make for dramatic shots.
That was great, but it didn’t bring the
landscape into the picture (pun intended!), so
we expanded from there. This is a historic
farm with great old buildings, so we encourage
them as a backdrop too. The historic Holcom
barn and the old Model T shed with its “Love”
door make great settings by themselves and
as a frame for the great outdoors. There are
a lot of old farm buildings around, so we felt like stepping it up a notch. First we added a steel spiral staircase to nowhere! Actually it’s just attached to a tree, but adds a whimsical vertical element to couple and group photos that can be difficult to achieve.
Next came the old British phone booth. It’s not a replica – this is the real deal! The bright red pop of color sets up a dramatic contrast with the deep green surroundings and has become a landmark in the area. This is a very popular photo setting for couples, families, graduation pics, you name it.
The old Ford pickup has been an amazing hit. From the front, side or back it is a great prop for all kinds of photos. With the valley spread out behind it and topped by a large, old tree it gives a sense of history and style.
Finally we decided a touch of whimsy was needed – enter the gypsy wagon! Colorful, intricate and fun it provides a truly unique photo opportunity. Inside, outside, front or back make great shots with dense woods along the creek for a strong contrasting backdrop. This touch of BoHo has been a wildly popular addition.
