  VISUAL ARTS
The Visual Arts Department welcomes all of our students to a year of growth and transformation! We are always exploring new ways to express our creativity with public art projects and exhibitions in almost every city we serve. A new NEON installation in the GSA expansion illuminates the New Energy Of Norfolk and invites you to journey to our gallery on the 3rd floor. Visual artists will enjoy both creating and exhibiting artwork in our beautiful art space that is used as a studio and a gallery. Our first juried show will be based on the summer assignment, Awareness through Art, and will open November 9 from 6-8 pm in our new gallery at GSA.
Upcoming exhibitions: Virginia Beach Neptune Festival's Youth Art Show on Sept 30, Ocean View Art Show Oct. 6-7, and the Stockley Garden Art Festival Oct. 20-21. We will also be unveiling a public art project in the NEON district during the NEON Festival on Oct. 19. In partnership with the Chrysler Museum, we will be working with guest artist Ezra Wube to create a video animation installation, and also preparing for our 5th Wearable Arts Fashion Show with visits and workshops. Come out and see our visual artists' work featured in the community!
VOCAL MUSIC
Vocal Music will have a full year of performing starting with a Liederabend Concert in November, our annual performance of

Handel's Messiah in December, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro in March, and an Opera's Greatest Hits concert in May. In addition, 8 of our students and two faculty members will be in Virginia Opera's opening production of Kurt Weill's Street Scene. This is the second consecutive year that the Opera is utilizing the talent of The Governor's School Vocal Music students and faculty in their production.
A trip to New York City to the Metropolitan
Opera in February, attendance at Virginia Opera dress rehearsals and the MET in HD series of operas at MacArthur Mall, and four concerts at Sentara Norfolk Heart Hospital round out our year's activities.
