Empirebyen
The Empire town
Gjenoppbyggingen etter bybrannen i 1826 ble gjort i tidens stil – empirestilen. Ingeniør- o serene Gedde og Garben, samt arkitekt Grosch, var arkitektene for utformingen av den nye byen Halden regnes i dag som Norges mest helhetlige empireby.
The town was rebuilt after the re in 1826 in the prevailing style of the time – the Empire style. Engineering o cers Ge- dde and Garben, and ar- chitect Grosch, designed the new town Halden is known today as the most complete empire town in Norway
Landbruk
Østfold er et av landets viktigste kornkammer, og Halden er den største landbrukskommunen i fylket. Hvert år produseres det korn til 11,5 millioner brød i Halden.
Agriculture
Østfold county is one of Norway’s most important granaries, and Halden is the largest agricultural municipality in the county. The grain is used to produce 11.5 million loaves of bread annually in Halden.
